    Sony KD-65XD9305 - DPS fault

    Hi,

I'm due to remove a faulty DPS board for this TV today. I know they are a common fault in various Sony sets. I'm just wondering what actually goes faulty on these boards?

I've read it's a certain IC, although I don't know which one it could be and that the fix is a different version of this chip.

    Any pointers?

    Many Thanks,

    Matt

Do you know for sure it's the DPS board ? https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/s...icles/00180172

Not yet, but I know it's very common for a dead set.

I've seen the free repair, but i've been asked to repair rather than get Sony involved - not sure the free repair works with second-hand units either.

        This might help ..

but i think the chip is TPS54334DDA goes on these and a fuse..
IC408 and an smd fuse, F404 fitted to the DPS board.
These were the parts being sold for a repair kit.

I tried it on a set but it did not work for me.
and did not have time to investigate further
maybe it will be better for you

Re: Sony KD-65XD9305 - DPS fault

                Quick update,

Tested the DPS in-situ, 24volts present on both sides of Fuse F404. No output from the TPS54334. SW Output resistance to ground is 8 Ohms.

Removed IC from the board, 8 Ohm resistance present between SW output and GND. Ordered replacement IC.

Found another DPS board on eBay listed as new and appears to have a resistor mod. See attached photo. My guess is it's either a 12K or 82K Ohm resistor to strap the PGOOD pin on the TPS54334 to GND - A strange mod as the Datasheet suggests this pin should be pulled up to VDD (max 6v) using a 100K Ohm resistor. Would be interested to know how this mod works? On original board the PGOOD pin seems to be floating?

                Cheers,

                Matt

Re: Sony KD-65XD9305 - DPS fault

                  TV is now fixed!

Replaced TPS54334, tied PGOOD pin to Ground via 100k resistor instead of leaving it floating.

                  Cheers,

                  Matt

Hello, does anyone know the resistances of R473 and R474 connecting pin 7 to ground?

                    Thanks

Strange CRT Fault (Sony Trinitron M1410U)
                      by sickboy
This is a CRT I sold a few months ago and it's came back with this weird issue. It's intermittent, but not a thermal fault, or tap sensitive - just completely random. The right side of the picture completely blanks out (picture is not shifted). The on screen display is unaffected though, so not a fault in the line section. Anyone seen anything like before in a CRT?

Sony SLV-E780 Power Supply Issue – Clicking Sound, Need Help Identifying Faulty Component
                      by Akuanka
                      Hi everyone,

I'm troubleshooting a power supply issue with a Sony SLV-E780 VCR. The device clicks repeatedly but doesn't power up completely. I've already replaced five capacitors, but the problem persists.

Here's a video link https://photos.app.goo.gl/3Xki6yvCLn67gLX78 showcasing the sound. Based on your experience, could this be due to a transformer, diode, or another component? Any guidance on what to test or replace next would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

                      Sony KDL-46HX850 Can't upgrade/update firmware
                      by dkneyle
Diagnosed this TV as having a failed main board which I've replaced with one from a KDL 55HX850. They are (supposedly) the same board.

Being 'Smart TV' it requires a firmware reboot when you swap out boards such as T-Con or main board. It starts with a black screen and flashing yellow and green LEDS, indicating it needs that firmware boot. The procedure described all over the web is to put the software into the root directory of a FAT32 formatted USB drive and it should load that up once plugged into USB1 port. But not for me. I can see the LED on the USB chip flash for about...
