Re: SM Electronics Supervision 2100 dvd player

Most switchers bleed the line cap when the plug is pulled the cap allows them to run for a few seconds after power is disconnected. Others have a bleeder resistor across the cap that does the same thing. Most line caps are completely discharged in a matter of seconds after disconnecting through one of those two routes.

If you're worried about the cap measure it with a DMM if it's 0 volts it's fine if it's not put a 5W wirewound resistor across the leads to discharge it.
Elements of the past and the future combining to make something not quite as good as either.

Artist seeking to tinker with electronics safely
        by Hypersapien
Howdy folks! I'm an artist in the video game industry, and my job entails making a lot of mechanical and sci fi assets. I thought it might be a good practice to start disassembling some electronics to be more familiar with how real electronics are manufactured and assembled, which is how i found my way to these forums.

When I started researching what tools I might need, I quickly encountered the warning "Some devices can maintain a potentially lethal charge in their capacitors, even up to years after last being powered on", which was enough of a scary thought for me to...

        Victrola multi-player - No audio
        by kokopelli75
        Hello!

My mother has a Victrola Navigator player that stopped functioning after a storm. I checked out what I could - all player functions appear to work, but there is no audio output in either the speakers or the headphone jack. I suspect (with my limited knowledge) that the amplifier part of the device is toast. Photo of the suspected board is attached. There's separate boards for front display, record player, etc. This board has a section for power regulation and a section for amp. There's a UTC7266 7+7W dual bridge amplifier IC and a CSC2314F sound processor IC on the board. Visually,...
