    Magnavox 51mp392h

I have a Magnavox 51mp392h. I started out have a convergence issue where the red would not move. I replaced the convergence chips, and the 12 convergence resistors. I can now move the convergence points and everything works fine through the Svideo, composite, and standard component inputs. When using the HD input, the crosses on the convergence menu seem to be wavy on the verticle axis. Some of the verticle lines are "c" shaped, some are "s" shaped. this occurs even when all convergence points are lined up. I can move the points, but the picture is still out of line.

    Yikes.

Must be done in service menu to do convergence after IC replacement and save it while in SD (480 only), then switch video input transfer the saved settings to HD in 1080 and touch up.) Then save it.

I know these chassis. You have to transfer the saved settings from SD to HD.

    Original remote is *required*.

Ingore first post of mine, this is edited post as 10 minute limit timed out on me.

      Yikes.

Must be done in service menu to do convergence after IC replacement and save it while in SD (480 only), jump back to intial service menu, then switch video input, go back into convergence menu and transfer the saved settings to HD in 1080 then go into convergence and touch up.) Then save it.

I think high count Multipoint is what you are needed to do. The low count multipoint is for coarse adjustment and is generally skipped.

I know these chassis. You have to transfer the saved settings from SD to HD.

VERY, IMPORTANT to WATCH OUT FOR COOLANT LEAK or brown coolant (common too especially in blue, green comes second, red is immume to this; question: is your yellow halo picture?). Lot of these philips chassis of this type got passed on they incur huge bill to fix for leak or changing coolant due to excessive time. Philips uses lens to push down on the C lens and in turn compress the big grey silicone washer seal ring using E-torx size 8 or 9 screws, totally insane. Rest of other makers uses aluminum plate so lens can be taken off without spilling any (either philips #2 or 1/4" hex screws).

Very poor design chassis especially CRT seal design and philips is too cheap to sell us assembled CRT assembly even without a lens is fine when I got first box containing crt years ago from philips, I eagerly opened up a box of arrived CRT part and frowned, naked CRT for price of a Samsung assembled CRT with coolant filled? Thanks very much, goes the profit because this got eaten up by larger labor. RCA and Samsung and others ships CRT assembly with coolant filled. Samsung is cheaper on this.

      Original remote is *required*.

How much have you invested in this repair yet and is it your first owner of this unit, even freebie? Crucially, is it yellow halo? If it is more than 100, drop it and go new LCD. These chassis was made 10 years ago.

Thanks, that worked. Looks great now. I have owned the set since I bought on clearance 7 years ago. This is the first repair to the unit, and i totaled to be $45. I was planning on changing the fluid, but after looking, there are no leaks, and the fluid appears clear.

Awesome. These units is average, make sure heatsink grease is plenty on these STK and squeeze against heatsink to make sure as spring clamp doesn't have sufficient pressure to quickly squeeze out grease.

The best one I ever seen is RCA's and Pioneer, Toshiba, Hitachi units because their CRTs are not too close to the screen or too small lens or lens not precision made to *specific* focal length and screen size. (this is reason for blurry at edges that I see all the time with philips and Samsungs)
