LG 55ub830v - Back Light, Sound but no picture

    Hi Guys!

I was given an LG 55uf850V by a friend who was told by LG that the panel had failed and would cost far too much to replace (All diagnosed over the phone). Can they really diagnose this so confidently over the phone?

Anyway I took the back off etc and after some googling thought I would swap the tcon due to it's low cost and easy replacement - It arrived yesterday and it made no difference (also replaced the ribbons as the second board came with some).

I have read a thread on here about a similar model tv (55ub850v) and it has a very similar looking tcon board so I tested the voltages I could match up that were suggested in the thread (A few test points were not present as far as I could see) and my findings are as follows:-

    v18 0.41v
    v14 3.95v
    v 10 7.8v
    v9 8.45v
    v5 12.2v
    v1 15.8v
    vd0 16.7v
    vcore 1.2v
    vcourfb 5.76v
    vcc18 1.82v
    vgl1 negative 5v
    vin 11.92v
    vgh odd 28v/negative 5v
    vgh even 28v/ negative 5v
    vcom1 5.8v
    vcom 2 5.9v

Just to note the vgh odd and even switch back and forth between 28v and negative 5v no idea if that's supposed to happen?

If I unplug the left side ribbon on the tcon I get just the white light on half of the screen and black with purple lines on the other, If I unplug just the right side ribbon the whole screen remains black. I have also found moving the ribbons slightly can cause changes to the lines. Voltages remain the same if the ribbons are disconnected or connected to the tcon board.

    Any help would be great!!

    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
I would have done the same to test the set out. I mean, to buy a new TCon.
You may already know this from your research, sound and backlights mean working main board and psu. If after replacing the Tcon nothing has changed, then yes, your display may be faulty. They diagnosed over the phone - a reason for this could be that the service guy already knew this series of TVs, and they may have a higher rate of defective LCDs. And guess what, he was right this time.
    Cheers, Janos

      Hi Yohnsee,
Thanks for the reply! In the other thread someone mentioned swapping the main board resolved the issue similar to this - is it possible the part of the main board has failed so it gives off sound but no picture and if so are there any checks I can do? also if the panel has failed is there much I can do to fix it? does the fact I can get some colours by removing ribbons mean anything at all? Thanks again!

Samsung UE48JU6400W - back light on, sound on, sometimes picture.
        by dronerat
        Hi Guys,

This forum has been in great help to me, but I stumbled upon a strange problem with a salvaged Samsung TV that I am banging my head to troubleshoot.

        PSU: L48S6 FHS BN44-00807D
        T-Con: BN95-01937A
        Panel: CY-GJ048HGLVLH
MB: NA (Currently as the TV is assembled and forgot to take picture)

As I said earlier I have some issues with the TV I got from a friend of mine. The TV had no picture, but sound, back light and everything else was working fine.
It was sent to an authorized service for repairs and returned with the...

I want to ask if it is possible to disable the NVIDIA GPU and use the intel one?

Samsung UN60F8000BFXZA ~ No Picture or Sound - 5 Res Light Blinks
        by kca
        Hello all ~

I’m working on this Samsung 60” LED and purchased a new main board a couple of days ago that did not fix the 5 blink issue. The original main board’s HDMI ports (all 4 of them) failed to work and no amount of reflow remedied that.

This 5 red light blink code on the front panel LED is followed (about 15-20 seconds afterward) by an automatic reboot, and results in 5 more red light blinks. Then the entire cycle repeats itself indefinitely.

        No picture. No sound.

I tested all the voltages coming out of the power supply...

Lift Master Garage Door wall switch display / motion sensor controller display disappeared no back light
        by sam_sam_sam
This happened last Saturday and today I finally had time this morning before I went to work to replace two non brand capacitors

I will let you be the judge weather or not these are bad or not according to the blue ESR meter that I am using

I am comparing them to a brand new one that I installed

The display came back on and the programming was not lost which I was surprised by I would have thought that when the display went blank that so did the memory as well

I going to let it run for several days before I remount back on the wall next to the...

        Samsung TV`s UE32J5500AK and UE48H6400AK Red Standby Light - No Picture/Sound
        by slimsoul
Hi, I'm new here and looking for some advice on how to diagnose an issue i have with 2 samsung TVs.

I have a UE32J5500AK and a UE48H6400AK both with the same issue of red light but nothing happening on the screen, the red light responds to remote or button press by flashing once but stays red. I have searched forums but most turn up a blinking red light.

I have tried replaceing the power board on the UE32J5500AK last year but this resulted in the same outcome.
The UE48H6400AK recently developed some small bright areas on the screen, then last week would not power...
