Good day folks. Quick curiosity: can an SPI chip on a Samsung's main board be replaced with one of larger capacity ? The thing is I have a Samsung TV which doesn't turn on and it has a W25Q40 IC. Thinking it could be defective, since it's detected as a NEXFLASH instead of a Winbond (as written on the damn thing itself
), I thought I'd replace the chip entirely - I could not find one in the store, so I dug through my junk box and found a W25Q64 instead, which according to the datasheet is 64m, compared to the 4m of the original chip. In hindsight I actually tried it, knowing there's no harm that can be done, since they're both 3v and the pinout is identical and although the dump flashed ok, the TV still doesn't turn on, thought this could very well be because of other reasons, but now I've introduced another unknown element, since I'm not sure a larger memory would work even on a functional TV, so is this remotely doable or must the chip be of an exact size ? Has anyone tried this before with positive results ? Cheers.
