    Toshiba 22LV11U repair

    Im trying to figure out what a burnt spot on this circuit board is, looks like a triangle spot of solder but why is this solder here and what does it do? It's this solder on the board then just circuit board and another triangle spot of solder? It's a Toshiba 22LV611U LCD TV. It has sound but no picture but if I shine a light on the screen I can see the picture is there and when I turn on the TV it says please wait in the lower left corner and sometimes the screen shows for a second. I know it looks like a power surge but can I jump solder or a wire or is it the board needs replaced?

      WAIT!!!...Don't jump that connection. You will destroy your PSU not to mention trip a breaker on your house panel box. I can't explain that burn mark there but that there is a deliberate factory break in the copper trace for that design of circuit. What you do have though is failed backlights due to Driver breakdown or simply backlight breakdown.

          No, I'm not talking about jumping all the way across but just where the triangle solder is missing? There's another one of these on the board in the picture that has 2 Triangle spots of solder separated by board in between. I'm just curious what the purpose of this triangle spot of solder that has no part solder to it why is it even there?

              They are breaks in the copper trace made during manufacture/design of the PSU. probably as a spark gap. That is not your problem, so don't waste time and energy on it. I think you have a failed backlights problem, though. BTW I love banjo music.

                  Thanks, we played some bluegrass for the Cedar Fork Ruritan Club last night. I tried finding a new board or backlight inverter, no luck so I guess it's going to the scrap pile. Thanks for the help.

                      You can still save this TV. You could convert it to a LED backlight TV. I like bluegrass and would have liked to hear you guys.

                          I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

                          Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

                          I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

                          The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

                          With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                          All left and right refers to looking from rear of TV (or looking from front with TV upside down)
                          • TV came with vertical bars and no image. Found faulty TVS on left buffer board. Also replaced T-Con (may have damaged the original while hot air removing components, board has slight warp) and have full image but few horizontal lines on the screen. Some of the lines appears to be 2 pixel tall while others are 1 pixel tall.
                          • Disconnecting left and right buffer board potentially reveals problems on both sides with different signals (unless this T-Con require jumper like Samsung FB_TRDY1&3) Fault

                          Problem

                          This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....
