55uf860v - Can a panel be Bad but still display perfect menus?

    Got this 4k LG.

Shows what I would assume was a faulty mainboard.
Multicoloured raster on all inputs including coax, sound remains, displays perfect menus.

I have several TCONs in stock for other UF models, some compatible, some not. Some made the menus and start up image black and white. However none changed the fault. (I didn't think it was a TCON fault but worth trying)

So I bought a replacment main board.
And of course the fault remains.

This does appear to be a common fault on these 4k UF sets I've seen a few others for sale with the same issue.

However I'm not convinced I've bought a bad mainboard. Im leaning towards bad panel, purely due to the way it starts up. It displays a thin multicolor horizontal line right at the start, running right along the top. For about a second. pics to follow after this post.

Personally never seen it before when the menus are ok but the panel is bad, so this could be a first.

OK so answering my own question.

Changed the mainboard and TCON over to a 49UF

This one has a confirmed good panel, and the fault remains.

This is looking like very common fault on these UF mainboards. I've seen a few now with exactly the same fault.

Cracked solder a possibility as the heatsinks run extremely hot.

Could have easily been solved if they part worked from eBay and saved my self questioning my sanity.

Well you could be the first to identify the exact cause.
I assume no responsibility for any stupid suggestions I might post.

            Solder under the CPU(s).

Search for BGA solder on youtube. So you need the reflow the cpu and add better cooling.

SAMSUNG UN50TU8000F rebooting, backlight ok. No 12v to panel boards.
              by triplefour
TV flashes backlight then reboots over and over. no image. Client said it used to have image for a bit before rebooting. Got worse over time.

              tcon is built into mainboard.
Only one cable goes to panel boards.
there is a cable from one panel board to the other that links them.
cost cutting measure that results in us having harder time to diagnose.
removing the link to the second panel board allows TV to stay on with stable backlight but no image.
used cut off tape method to mask 1 maybe 2 pins on the side of the cable that goes to that second panel board....

Missing LCD Panel Voltages VGH, VGL, VCOM (TCL 55P6US Sound & Backlight but NO Picture)
              by maneatingmonkey
I have a TCL 55P6US with sound and backlight but no picture. This model does not have a T-CON board, and the right (rear perspective) panel board is fed from the left panel board. I have not been able to induce any change by disconnecting the secondary panel board or the tape cut-off method on the primary board.

There are a bunch of voltages missing on the panel boards. I can't find any shorted caps of the panel boards, and all of the missing voltage rails read in the kiloohms, which leads me to suspect the issue may lie on the circuit board, rather than a short in the panel.

Panasonic 55DX600u second fault - panel brightness pulsing on right side
              by fixxy88
After getting the backlights up and running a second fault has emerged on this TV. I was going accept defeat and move on but thought I'd have a quick look at it in case it was something simple. The right side of the display exhibits a panel brightness (not backlight brightness) pulse every 2-3 seconds in a stable timing.

I poked about on the TCON test points and found one voltage that is fluctuating in the same pattern. VGH-ODD (Pin 47 of U10) is sitting at ~-6.5v then goes up to ~28v when the brightness pulses then goes back down to ~-6.5v again in a repeating pattern.

              Failure Symptom

No picture, just red vertical stripes. Google search shows quite common problem for these recent Vizio M series although red vertical stripe pattern may differ. Some call it "Netflix" boot screen haha.

              Where is the short?

Panel has 4x buffer boards. Quickly found the 1/4 panel buffer board with the problem by selectively disconnecting buffer board flex cables.

Having recently fixed another Vizio with similar symptoms that was a shorted ESD diode array ( link ) Probed the ESD diode array but...
