    Samsung LA40B650T1MXRD - T-con? Very red people

Hi there, hoping you good people can help me figure out if I can revive my set. Colours are very red on particular channels, mostly noticeable in the skin tones. There are also horizontal ghost lines extending across the screen if there is any sort of graphics/words displayed. Have attached some images to show.

Set was performing really well till a lighning storm (according to the wife who watches much more TV than I do). Not sure if coincidental or just her trying to join the dots.

Initially I went into the service menu and was fiddling with the channels but nothing really made any difference so I did a service reset. You can see that the first image is very red. This is what it is mostly like. The second image the skin tones are better but no where near what it used to be like, and def not normal. I thought perhaps some setting had defaulted to something odd to shift the colours but nothing seemed to normalise things.

From my reading most suggestions are the main video board of the t-con. The menus are white which seems to implicate the t-con? I think I could replace the board having seen some youtube vids, it doesn't look any more difficult than computer components.

Any wise eyes that have seen this kind of thing before that could help tell me whether it's junk or whether a t-con replacement might be what I'm looking for. Am a little dismayed that there's no one locally that repairs these things.

Thanks in advance. Any help appreciated. Kind of wishing I was rich enough to justify buying a new set, but buying a replacement t-con will be expense enough.

Let me know if you need anything further that would help. Cheers.

what do you mean with (( Initially I went into the service menu and was fiddling with the channels but nothing really made any difference so I did a service reset. )) ??

if you changed any Data Value at service menu, they will remain changed no reset will bring them back !!!

That's good to know, I wasn't aware that was the case. I did note them down and was very conservative. I changed the value then brought it back to what it was. The service reset was really me thinking that anything I changed would go back to default values. Initially when I was reading about it people made the suggestion that the red channel value may be off. But nothing came close to resolving it. How it is represented in the first image is how it presented right at the beginning without making any changes.

I didn't want to go into the service menu at all, but this tv is basically dead to us if I can't find something to make a change. Menus, or hardware. It was a last ditch effort to change anything. So values should be taken as what they were without my fiddling.

good done you noted them before change, so bring them back as they are,, its look the green channel are missed up. first of all turn it off and take the cover back, and carefully to reseating after clean LVDS between MB and T-CON, and the ribbon cable from T-CON to Panel.

Interesting, I didn't change anything on the green at all. Was lowering the red was all I tried.

Will try to clean and reseat.

post a pic of your tcon. Is there a AS-15 chip on there?

Ok. Excuse the noobish lingo, as I mentioned earlier am complete novice.

So I removed the back off the TV and pulled the connecting cables out and put them back in. No signs of oxidation or dust or anything visibly in or around the connectors. The ones from the t-con to the display I didn't remove as they looked more fiddly and flimsy and I didn't want to break them. I did give them a bit of a push in to make sure they were sitting in properly and hadn't wriggled loose.

Plugged the TV back in and made sure to take a pic of the T-Con when it was removed. Unfortunately it wasn't as clear as I'd hoped. Not sure where or what the AS-15 chip is but have attached photo it if it helps.

That picture is too blurry for me. However, search here for "Gamma Voltages" or "As-15", "AS-15 gamma" etc. Measure the voltages on your gamma IC and record your voltages on a piece of paper. Look at them and they have to stagnate gradually. If there is a jump, it certainly is bad.

Vga test points looks to be under and slightly right of the top right LVDS cable going into the LCD. Also check the numbering on the square IC under the test points. It looks to be the right size for an AS-15 chip.
