Toshiba 42HL67 Goes dark after a few minutes

I just acquired this TV due to the problem mentioned. If there is no signal or if it's in PC mode with a 1024 x 768 it stays on indefinitely. When I try different PC resolutions or switch to antenna input, the picture breaks up and goes dark from a few seconds to several minutes. The backlight is still on. I see that this problem was fixed in one case by a new T-con board. Before I jump to that, I would like to know if there is a software update and also check the service mode settings. I accessed service mode but can't seem to find a list of default settings. Does anyone have these?

if all other inputs on the board work fine and you only seem to have trouble on your pc input, I doubt your T-con is at fault. It sounds more like a main board failure. Do you have a link to the thread that suggest the t-con could fix this issue, I am curious to know excatly what the situation was there. Additionally, here is a link to a guy that had firmware issues with his set and details how to perform the update

It happens with the tuner and PC input. I haven't tried the others. Once it is dark, cycling through inputs will not make it come back but the input does still change. It seems to be related to the amount of brightness or fill on the screen. It will only last a few seconds on a white noise screen but lasted for over an hour watching a local digital channel. The menus don't appear on the screen either when the problem occurs. When it goes dark, there are remnants of the picture that fade in seconds. It doesn't look like the input was removed, it looks like the screen stops working.
