    Samsung PN60E550D1FXZA pink noise

    Hi,
I have a Samsung PN60E550D1FXZA Plasma with a born date of December 2012. Has pink noise color issue. see picture. TV powers on, connects to network, updated the firmware, can watch video but there is a pink cast to the display. Tried the BN96-22114A module, but no joy with that.

As a note: I looked at all caps and found nothing visually bad. I do hear a very slight buzz from the top left and right main boards.

    thoughts on next steps?

Hi Sorry only just seen your message. I would think as you did that this is X Sus fault? it is not uncommon to get a duff board, are you seeing the same display with your old board

Well try running test patterns with the main board unplugged ? this will show that the main is good or bad and cross that off the list. on the control board you will see four pins or holes marked 1-4, connect pins/holes 3-4, then with the cable from the power board to main board unplugged the test patterns should run when set is powered from wall socket(power board could need PS-on grounding but think on these newer sets when pulling the main PS-on goes low on it own if not just link PS-on to ground on the plug you have pulled from the main ) Flocko

            Flocko,

Thank you for this step. Ran set in self test and still see the issue. Couple pic's attached. As an FYI had to jumper PS-on to low to get set to start.

Turn up Vsc on the Ysus board, the Pod is labelled might sort it if not let us know and will help you further.

thank you for the idea. Took the Vscan to -210 VDC without any noticeable change. reset to the factory number on the sticker, -198 ...

                  Re: Samsung PN60E550D1FXZA pink noise

I would try changing the Y Sus board, We now know its not the main board as it runs Test patterns test from control board and these still show the problem. My bet would be with the Y Sus, have seen this on other models. Do not play with the voltages leave set as per sticker this fault will not get any better playing with the voltages and could give you more problems

                    Thanks Flocko,
I will acquire a Y SUS and update once received and installed. I also see what appears to be a pretty thorough repair kit for these boards. Any thoughts on that? I have a good amount of soldering experience so that does not bother me. Looks like a refurb board is about $125 these days, and the kit is about $34. Thoughts on this? Too difficult a R&R?

                      Re: Samsung PN60E550D1FXZA pink noise

Your board has not failed fully and so could be a problem finding the fault, I would first remove the board and check all the soldering on the back? it is not unknown for this kind of fault to be something as simple as a dry joint on a component ?

A fault like this benefits from having an oscilloscope to check the output waveforms of each board. Is there a chance you have one or could borrow one?

I know, I know, I sold my Tek 2445 and regret it every day. I have a Y sus module on the way but this is an expensive way to try and fix this set. I have an electronics reseller in the area that has used scopes. I will go take a look and pick one up.

Thanks to everyone providing guidance and insight into this issue. I received a replacement Y Sustain module and it has repaired the screen. Now, off to find another project TV and an O'scope for my further forays.
