    Philips 60PP9202 - DLP Color Waves/Swirls

    Hey alls..

A couple nights back, my Philips decided to freak out after changing channels...

A little background, I was given this TV a few years back as it had a convergence problem. I pulled it apart and replaced the ICs and resistors along with cleaning the lenses and changing coolant. TV has worked great for several years until this happened..

Not a typical convergence problem, but waves of green, pink, and blue surround the lower portions of the screen. In the center, picture is still clear as it always has been.

I wasn't able to find any answers so we broke down and upgraded to a new LG 4k, but would still like to repair the old unit and send it on its way rather then haul it to the dump...

Any ideas on what could have failed? It had been on for a few hours... No odd noises... Just changed channels and it all went down hill. Same problem on all inputs and it isn't throwing any current error codes.

    Thanks!
    -Chris

Well for starters its not a DLP, its a crt rear projection. I would bring up the convergence test pattern as that will tell you which color has the problem, It looks like a fault with the green circuit, using the built in test pattern would eliminate a lot and help in narrowing down the problem.

      Thanks for clarifying.

As for the manual convergence... when that is on screen, all of the individual colors are having issues. The alignment "+" symbols that are on the screen are good in the center but the areas of the screen that are wavy, the "+" is distorted...

Also, when in the "RED" manual multi-point converge, the "+" turns yellow when everything is right. In the center of the screen where the image is clear, they are perfectly straight and aligned as they should be. In the problem areas of the screen, they are deep red and wavy. I can adjust them but it makes no difference.

Same goes for the other colors. Typically when these have convergence IC issues, you get double/triple images that are unclear (which is the problem it had when I first got it) and the convergence can't be set manually. In this case, everything is still adjustable as it should be.

Even when the screen is black, there are light green/pink/blue waves that look like the northern lights all along the bottom 1/3 of the screen and up the sides as in the picture shown above.

What ever the problem is, it is effecting all 3 lamps from what I can tell.

It is almost like someone is holding a large magnet to the lower portion of the screen (looks like what happens when you stick a magnet to an old pc monitor). Picture is clear but where the magnet is, the colors are all blended/wavy, etc..
