Samsung PN60E530 Start jingle and six blinks

While waiting for parts to finish the Vizio project I got help for on here.... I need some tips on friends 60 inch Samsung. Been reading lots of posts on here and I think they will help.

My question is.. it has a two inch crack in the glass where you can see something hit it... and formed a star like break. Hard to see but there. Crack does not go to edge stops about 2 inches away. I think the tv worked after that but still checking on that.
The story is it.. got hard to turn on.. and finally not at all.
The Start Jingle plays about 2 seconds and the red light blinks six times consistently every time I plug it in. Have not cleared a spot big enough to work on it yet, but I will if that screen crack is not a deal killer.

    Thanks

Re: Samsung PN60E530 Start jingle and six blinks

Ok removed the back and nothing looks burnt or no bulging caps.
With cables to Y Board and X board disconnected.. Start jingle plays over and over and the front led blinks 6 times... every time it cycles.

With all cables plugged in green logic led blinks off every 6 seconds.
With Y Board unplugged. (left side) green light same as above.
With X Board unplugged .. no green logic led. (cannot have Y board plugged in alone)

Read a post from tom66 that would indicate I have a bad X-main at the very least. So do I replace that board and hope the screen damage is not fatal or ??

Crack means it's dead, sorry, the panel won't work any more.

Hi guys I can confirm a plasma panel will work with a crack I had a Samsung with a crack in the plasma that worked perfect despite having a star crack when it was repaired the engineer was shocked it still worked

But had been working perfect for 3 months if not more with the crack because it was an internal crack it obviously didn't leak the gas but if it's leaked out the gas then Tom is right the panel is dead

Could you guys tell from a picture?? Or is there some basic way to confirm.. gas leak or no gas leak??

Usually when a panel cracks if it still works it will start with a black spot where the crack is this is air entering the panel or gas escaping it will get worse and it will go out completely the sheer fact that the electrodes haven't cracked along with the glass will allow the panel to operate sufficiently until more gas escapes and more air enters the screen. In the end they all die. There has been a few instances where if you catch it fast enough you can quickly disassemble the TV and attempt to superglue the crack to keep the void between the gas escaping and oxygen entering. But this is rare very rare. 9 times outta 10 though when a panel cracks it damages the electrodes along with it

Basically a panel with a crack is a "dead man walking"... If it works the slightest thermal expansion could kill it.

The crack mostly causes problems with the Y-scan electrode lines triggering short circuits to X- and address and the like. If this happens the buffer board usually fails preventing the set from operating.

Replacing the buffer may work temporarily but the panel short will kill it again. On older panels a crack would usually stop the TV working altogether due to lack of gas. The newer panels use a different design and the gas usually does not leak easily but the electrode lines are easily damaged so the panel is still dead for all intents and purposes.

Re: Samsung PN60E530 Start jingle and six blinks

After lots of reading I see my title is wrong. The Logic board either has a heartbeat.. steady off and on which is good.. or it blinks off every six seconds.
which is bad. That is what mine was doing.

Thanks to drussell and several others.. I do have a picture and sound. I chilled the Y Board in the area of C5162 and it's has been playing for a hour now. I will replace those pesky blue caps and maybe the chip in question after I decide if I can fix the last problem.

When tv first came up.. no input signal was provided and it was just beautiful snow. After adding a wire for an ant and letting it search the channels.. It comes up with great picture except for four narrow black horizontal lines running the width of the screen and right at the small star crack talked about above on the left top corner of the screen.
I have a upper buffer board coming to try and fix this. tom66 indicates the fix will be temporary. Any longer term solutions?

Fantastic 60 Inch picture is tough to give up on.

Probably not. The panel is damaged. It's just shear luck it's actually working. You will probably find the lines still exist with a new buffer board as the electrodes are damaged.

freakaftr8 you were right new buffer board did not help. But after new caps on the Y Sus.
C5162, C5046, and C5160 it starts up now. I will post back when it dies for good.

Set now has about 15 hours on it. No change with the horizontal black lines but a beautiful 60 inch picture. How much for a new Plasma Screen and where.? Not my first option but maybe. I looked on Samsungparts.com with no success. Maybe you have to be a professional to have access to high dollar parts.

I believe you have to be certified for samsung. However you will find high dollar prices indeed. You're only like would be to find the same series television with the same panel with multiple board failures in the point where it's not worth repairing but the screen replacement on yours or swapping the boards over to that would be the only feasible option if you can find one
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

And we both know that is not going to happen. I will just watch it the way it is and see how long it will last. Kind of got me looking for Plasma sets again.. I do think the picture is superior.

Samsung DM32D – Red LED blinks 5 times, won’t start (possible mainboard issue)
                                    by Nairolf
                                    Hello,

                                    I have a Samsung DM32D display.
When I try to power it on, the red LED blinks 5 times and nothing happens—the unit won’t start.

Here’s what I have tried so far:
                                    1. Disconnected the cable between the mainboard and the power supply → the backlight turns on.
                                    2. Disconnected the main T-CON ribbon cable → same issue as before, the LED still blinks 5 times.
                                    3. Disconnected one of the two T-CON ribbons to the panel (tested each one separately) → same issue, the LED blinks 5 times.

From these tests, I suspect the problem might be on the mainboard. Could anyone...
