    TNPA5105 for 42" or 50"....?

Ive got this TX-P42U20b that is incomplete, and Ive no idea what it was fitted with....

There's no SC and no buffers. The SS is still present.

From a bit of a search around it appears the SC is TNPA5105 but that also relates to a 50" set too....

Any ideas what this set should have...?

There's a number of ways to work this out. First option would be the SM. Failing that, SJ website also will help

The U20 is going to have the same as a U2, S20 or S2. All budgetline FHD models so you're correct it will be a 5105 revAD

    TXNSC1LHUU, TXNSC1DEK42 (TNPA5105AD) SC Board

    Attached to TXNSM1LHUU (TNPA5086AC, TXNSM11DEK42) SM Board

If you had a 5081 for a 42 that may bolt in too and drive it, not sure if it's the same panel precisely since SJ have removed panel numbers from their site but often the buffers from the lower end models of these are the same minus heatsinks in most cases.

Needing a board is going to blow out the cost as they're one of the harder and more expensive to find. Pretty much suffers the same Sc failures as the 5081 as it's a cut down version

the panel part # should be MD42F13C1Z

For the G20 it's , MD42F13C3Z so I suspect it's the same panel but the backing with the posts is different so looks like the mountings won't all be there or line up for a 5081 but they do use the same Sm board

Great! Thanks for all that info! I suspected that its replacement cost would be huge, but thought maybe if a dead one comes along that I could repair--Sometimes you see faulty boards on ebay...

I'll hang onto the set for a while, as its complete with stand and nice condition--I never know what will come along, maybe I'll get lucky now that I know what board will fit.

edit--Ive found one from a local supplier, but at a horrendous price, £100! Its TNPA5105 AC rather than AD Even with the discount she gives me--Its still a Horrible price for a set still needing Buffers as well!!

There was a 5081 for a 42" going dirt-cheap --so took a chance to experiment. I can always sell it on if its just not suitable providing there's no obvious defects or send it back if there are!

          Finally got back to this....Sorta!

I got hold of another TX-P42U20, same old fault--SC shorted Q661, Q660 etc etc....

Dug out the TNPA5081 I bought cheap, checked it for problems, none found.

Its about two inches wider than the TNPA5105 and the heatsinks are much beefier--Altogether looks a different beast.

TNPA5105 really is a cheap piece of crap in comparison visually, indicating the 'U20 sets budget bottom of the line cheap-shop 'ARGOS' version!

--For a larf, I pulled out the dead 5105 and lined up the 5081. All mounting-posts line up but to fit I had to loosen the buffer-board to allow fitment, as being wider would not fit under the buffer-board as the frame of the set will not allow without slipping off the buffers first.

All refitted without buffers, SS checked,--all OK there, SC50 short link fitted, set fired up....

It runs, no blinks, all looks nice Vs, Va correct, SC buzzing normally......

Buffers checked for shorts and none found. Refitted with all mounts and screws, SC50 short removed, and set fired up--With bated breath....

          It works! So--For reference a TNPA5105 in a 42" U20 can be replaced by a TNPA5081 AH version....

sounds good but no surprise really as the 5105 is virtually the same cct as the 5081 just they've cut back the qty of transistors and used RENESAS IGBTs instead of the panasonic DG401 and 502.

Going the other way using a 5105 for a 5081 would possibly be harder as the SC20 ribbon may fall too short to the 5105 sc20 since the board is narrower.

Of course you could repair that 5105 and save the 5081 for another day when a G20 surfaces. Should be almost identical repair. I got one ouit of a 50' busted, have not touched it but i think from memory the schmitt inverter ic survived on that for a change.

Also looking at the 5105 suggests the RJP43F4a and 56F4A would be suitable subs for the panasonic IGBTs.

If it wasnt for your tip TW,--I wouldnt have even thought of it! Combined effort!

I have a 42G20 I use as a bedroom set--Not used much these days--nice set, low hours too, and have a regular scan on auction sites for more cheap 5081.

I'll definitely keep that dead 5105, maybe do it up sometime, it will come in for the other U20 I have in the garage that's incomplete, needs buffers, SC and PSU--all were missing when I got it, so no urgency....

It really is incredible how they cheapened up that design for the Argos specials!
