After hours searching and reading these forums without anything conclusive, I'm ready to throw in the towel. But, first, thought I'd run by this forum my symptoms and what I've done.
TV powers on, shows startup ('SCEPTRE') and displays pix/sound fine. During the first 15-20 minutes, the screen will flash a horizontal line several times and then with a 'click' the pictures goes off. Sometimes it will come right back on; other times it'll power down and I have to restart the sequence. Sometimes the video image will go completely scrambled before shutting down.
After it warms up a bit, the video straightens out and the unit will work for the rest of the evening.
Tried to figure out what caps may be causing this (even bought a cap tester) but, without clear understanding of the electronics, I gave up on replacing caps.
My logic says that the power is good and that the problem lies in the other board because it's only the image that has problems AND when the unit shuts down the video without powering down (blue power light stays on), the video/audio pop right back on without any warmup.
Thinking I have a heat related issue with a cold solder joint, I used my reflow unit to heat up solder joints on the video board. Problem persists!
With some more knowledgeable advice, I'd be willing to replace which ever board you (with more experience) think is the problem unit. Or, this thing might just be a POS (I got it for free) and needs to be recycled.
