[Insignia NS-LTDVD19-09] DVD player keeps ejecting discs

Got this Insignia NS-LTDVD19-09 here, it has an issue with the DVD player.

(It's a TV/DVD combo. Appears that there is a similar make with a tan power board, and a different main board. This one I have has a black power board and a big main board)

The PSU had one bad cap by the inverter circuitry, but it wasn't the cause of any issues. The TV behaved just the same after replacing the cap. (It was a teapo 470uF 25V, SC series I think. Replaced with a taicon cap, not the best, but it is the best replacement I have on hand spec-wise (Damn that tiny teapo cap was rated for a large ripple current!))

    The issue:
It keeps ejecting the discs back out.
Tried different DVDs, tried cleaning the laser lens.
Checked the spindle motor, it turns the DVD for a moment when it tries to detect the disc.

Next thing I want to try is adjusting the laser power. But the two trimpots seem to be partly burnt out (possibly?), as they don't show any resistance for most of the turn. They show about 10 to 300 ohms for only about 30% of the turn.
From when I opened up the DVD unit, one pot was at full CCW position, and the other was about 40% of the way. (Going from fully CW towards fully CCW postion.)

FYI, I CAN see the laser lighting up, but is it still possible that it isn't powerful enough?

I was told that to use the DVD player you'd have to put the DVD in multiple times until it would accept the DVD. Now it won't accept it no matter how many times you try.

    Any advice?

    Thanks,
    -Ben

So--Disc in and wont achieve TOC....?

    Then it spits it out....

Laser (Or its Proper name, Optical Block) is probably stuffed. Altering its power wont help in my experience, its the optics themselves that either deform fractionally with age or are contaminated with dust/crud. Impossible to clean properly as you need to dismantle--and once you do that--you'll Never ever get it back EXACTLY as it was before it was dismantled--These things are assembled Incredibly accurately, and have glue/resins etc holding it all exact.
--To Add to the confusion--DVD Laser optical blocks have Two Laser light sources that are switched depending on either DVD or CD being read
    --Blu Ray machines have Three!.....

Only option is replacement Optical Block--IF you can find one....

May be worth disconnecting disc table-motor running it Backwards for 20 seconds using Small 9V batt then Forwards for 20 sec, try again. Ive cured temporarily duff motors this way...

So the optical block is probably dead, eh?

Why would running the motor like that make it work again?

The Motor issue is separate, and on some cheapo players Ive worked on sometimes sorts the motor out for a while...

IF the Optical Block is dead--there's no option but replacement.

Hahaha, that's really strange. Some fine tolerances between working and not working ... lol

Yeah I guess so. Looks like the set is trash then.

When the dvd gets put in, the spindle motor moves the disc a little ways (maybe one full rotation or so) in one direction and then changes direction for less than a full revolution, and then it stops. Is that normal? It does that twice. The focusing lens is moving up and down as well.

                Victrola multi-player - No audio
                by kokopelli75
                Hello!

My mother has a Victrola Navigator player that stopped functioning after a storm. I checked out what I could - all player functions appear to work, but there is no audio output in either the speakers or the headphone jack. I suspect (with my limited knowledge) that the amplifier part of the device is toast. Photo of the suspected board is attached. There's separate boards for front display, record player, etc. This board has a section for power regulation and a section for amp. There's a UTC7266 7+7W dual bridge amplifier IC and a CSC2314F sound processor IC on the board. Visually,...

Insignia NS-LCD019-09 issue: Power light turns blue for 3 seconds, the flashes red before going solid read again
                by cajoeg
Hello, I'm new to the group and to trying to repair a LCD TV. During the past few years, I've been collecting/repairing/restoring vintage personal computers (Commodore, Apple II, Atari, TRS-80, Texas Instruments, and Timex Sinclair). This has been my retirement hobby. Now I've gotten interested in trying to repair a LCD TV that I have and used regularly when working on vintage computers.

The LCD I'm working on is a Insignia NS-LCD019. I've downloaded the service manual that I could find, but it must be a different revision since not too many items in the service manual match the TV...

LG BH6420P Home theather blue ray player repair
                by unimatrix93
Hello everyone, I'm trying to troubleshoot this LG hometheater player.

The customer forced her USB drive reversed into it's USB socket and since then the player won't work properly, only shows "Please wait" error forever on it's display.

Now I started diagnosing the USB socket and the mainboard where it's connected.

I found 20ohm resistance to ground on the 5V line of the USB.

5V is missing and I found the buck converter of the USB line, TPS65252 IC.
After measuring the pins I realized that both VIN and 3V3 is correctly present...

Panasonic AG-1000B VHS player with bad picture quality
                by FZG
                Hello!

I recently got an old VHS player from Panasonic and just for fun I want to try to repair this device. It is an AG-1000B portable VHS player from 1990 and it has a problem with picture quality in playback mode.

Picture in playback mode is very noisy and often loses sync but the still images are nearly perfect.

I want to know, is this something that could be solved by recapping or is the video head likely gone?

                Also, what mechanism is this?

                Any feedback is appreciated!...
