Suggestion for speaker replacements in TV's?

    Suggestion for speaker replacements in TV's?

    I was wondering, no my Mitsubishi CS-2724R, if any of you repair guys have literature which details what sort of speakers are in my TV. I noticed PartsExpress.com sells some little 2"x3" shielded drivers* which I was considering using instead of the factory ones. I mean, they are very old and the foam suspensions have GOT to be junky by now, but I can't get to them to press on the foams and see if they are rotted out. They still sound okay, but I figured that when I get into the thing to fix the caps in the vertical section... well, probably as much as I can replace, I may as well replace the speakers as well... maybe rework the audio section a tiny bit. It also has some drivers in the sides which from what I can tell are perhaps 3" or 4" drivers. Any suggestions for replacing these?

    p.s. Of course, I'm not sure if the factory ones are 2x3's or 3-1/2x1-7/8. They are behind a mesh which I don't think is removable without getting inside the TV... which would make sense since there is no hardware visible from the exterior.

    The speakers are most likely secured from inside with 2 to 4 screws.

    The best thing to do is to remove and measure the speakers before ordering so that the screw holes line up and they fit inside properly.

    Also look for the old speakers impedance its usually printed on the back of the speaker. It will either be 4, 8, or 16 ohms.

    As for what type of speakers I'm not really a sound guy so can't help you there.

      I wouldn't go through all the trouble to "rework the audio section". Just use external shielded speakers.

        Dood has some really good advice here. I have made a good living out of updating sound systems. the problem you will have is the factory speakers are a special fit and unless you are good with a glue gun it will be really hard to find a replacement to fit. I have taken the foam surround off of other speakers to repair speakers that had speacial mounting. Parts express has a really good selection and prices are good.

          Also it is not ideal to try to improve this because of chassis design does not allow you this. Best to use external speakers with good ampifier.
