If you already have 4 gone visibly bad, it's quite possible the rest of the same brand have gone bad too, just not the point of showing outward signs.

If you don't have an ESR meter to check the ones that still look 'OK' - you just have to replace them as well on guilt by association.

I've seen two of the same buldged ones (2200uf 10v) in a Samsung plasma power supply but it turned on and ran for a while until sound got crackly.

I was hoping the big 450v mommas would at least allow screen on but I guess not.

The electrolyte is pretty dried up and I couldn't get it wiped up with alcohol, so I guess it's no longer conductive?

I do hear a wine coming from one of the transformers. It would stop when in standby, now after re flowing a mosfet (only a sec or two on joint) it's vice versa.

Source for quality stumpy 450v/150uF STGCON cap replacement
        by shovenose
I am attempted to replace this capacitor to repair a power supply. I put in a random used NCC KXG 450v/100uF and it worked but it's too tall and skinny to reinstall the heatsink and even if I drill a big hole in the heatsink for the cap it would still be too tall and the power supply will no longer fit in the network switch.

The original cap seems to be 35mm in diameter and maybe 25mm in height. I could probably go up to 30mm in height and be OK.

Thanks for any help with a source for these, I only need one or two, and the cheaper the better. I found some on eBay that...

LG 47LB5DF blown power supply board
        by cmlewis89
        Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum. So my trusty 17-year-old LG 47" LCD recently died. As I was booting it up, I heard a hum followed by a loud bang, sounds of pieces flying around, and loss of power to the unit. Inspecting the PSU, I saw two obvious problems: a blown thermistor (bang + flung pieces) and a visibly bulging main cap. Inspecting as many components as I could with my Fluke MM, I diagnosed that the following components on the "hot side" of the board were also bad: one of the 2 main MOSFETs, main 8A fuse, small cap (25V 47uF) connected to main caps, and a blown...

Macbook Air M2 A2681 Kernel panics after screen replacement
        by reformatt
Just had a customer bring in a M2 MBA A2681 that had had a screen replacement in April at another repairer. Since then, she has been getting intermittent kernel panics. It's an aftermarket screen, and of course it fails in diagnostics as the calibration hasn't been done. The error in the panic log is "No device added after powering on the rails".

It seems the original repairer has swapped the board and the screen to other MAC's, and said that it isn't a screen issue. From what I understand, by doing a quick search on Google, this is in fact a screen issue. The panic relates...

Unknown transformer : how to find a good replacement part ?
        by the_rem
        Hello guys,

I would like a quite old but still good 800 W ATX PSU to be repaired. The problem was an extremely heavy coil whine coming from the small secondary transfomer on the PCB.

I desoldered it hoping the references on the upper side would allow me to find a adequate replacement part. Sadly the written references drove me nowhere but to the manufacturer (I-MAG). I sent them a message like a bottle in the see asking them to send me a datasheet of the transformer. And... They responded ! I received a kind of datasheet (see attachment) but my competencies do not allow...

PS4 controller left stick potentiometer replacement issue
        by ezenia
        Hello,

Not sure if this is the correct section, but I have a PS4 controller that I am trying to fix. It developed stick drift on the left stick and the usual simpler methods did not fix the problem.

So I went on eBay and ordered some replacement potentiometers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174967976757 is where I got them from.

I took the green potentiometers off the replacement sticks and soldered them onto the PCB. Assembled the controller and ran some tests. The drifting was somewhat fixed (not fully in center, but way better than before). However,...
