40E210U toshiba will not turn on

    Hello,
I have a 40 inch toshiba that simply stopped working. I made another post for it, but made a typo in the title line in regards to the model number.
it is a 40E210U toshiba tv.

it worked monday night, and when i tried to turn it on on tuesday night, absolutely nothing happened. The power in the house is fine, its got to be inside the tv.
    any help is appreciated.
    thanks.

Sorry, I used the search and nothing came up with this model. and then just posted. thanks for taking the time.
I pulled first the fuse and power cable from the main board, then pulled the whole main board to bring to work and test some of the connections.
The fuse and power cord are fine, and to my untrained eye, the board looks filmy and dirty, but the connections all appear ok, both by eye, and with my meter, but I could be missing something.
so, the rest of the TV is at home now, but here are some pics of the main board.
      sorry, and thank you again.

Also want to apologise for the quality of the pics, will take better at home.

OK, take the voltage readings on those pins of the white connector on the bottom right corner of the board when TV is plugged in but not turn on and when power switch is activated. Make sure to list each pin names for each voltage.

Re: 40E210U toshiba will not turn on

Thank you again. Here are some better pics of that main board, with close ups, and the fuse and main power line plugged in. And a shot of the overall unit with the back off. And then a close up of the plug in question.
If I'm correct, and you want the multi pin plug that goes to the board with the buttons and the outputs, the numbers are as follows, first voltage with the power button off, second with the power button on:
          BLON : 0.00v 0.00v
          DIM : 0.02v 0.02v
          ACD : 0.02v 0.02v
          PWON : 3.28v 3.28v
          5Vcc : NA NA
          5Vcc : 5.13v 5.13v
Next 4 pins are bracketed under "N.C. 12Vcc GND"
          1 : NA NA
          2 : 11.86v 11.86v
          3 : NA NA
          4 : 0.00v 0.00v
          GND : 0.00v 0.00v
          GND : 0.00 v 0.00v
          12Va : 24.1 v 24.1v
          12Va : NA NA
          GND : 0.00v 0.00v
          GND :0.00 v 0.00v

I measured the "power on" numbers as a block after pushing the button once, then again by using the the remote power button, then I went through and had someone push the power button as I monitored each pin and the voltages there never changed.

Re: 40E210U toshiba will not turn on

            "12Va : 24.1 v 24.1v
            12Va : NA NA"

Is that typo, they are supposed to be 24VDC out put for the inverter board.
You do get green light on the front panel, right?
Right now the power supply is working but it looks like some of the signals from the main board are not working.

BLON : 0.00v 0.00v: this one for turning on the backlights, not working.
DIM : 0.02v 0.02v: PWM dimming control, not working
ACD : 0.02v 0.02v; Analog dimming control, not 100% sure on this one.
PWON : 3.28v 3.28v: Power supply ON (PS_ON) is stuck high, it should be 0 or <1 when TV is not activated.

So it looks like you have main board problem. Was the TV hit by surge or lightning or some thing?

Re: 40E210U toshiba will not turn on

No, not a typo, here's another shot of the labelling on that plug. I'm sorry for the poor quality pictures. Just bought a new house and everything, including a real camera, is still in boxes, would like the tv to work to relax a bit at the end of the day.

In the pic, the bottom six labels are:
              GND
              GND
              12Va
12Va (this one has a small solider spot on the "a", but I think it's still an "a")
              GND
              GND

I do not get any reaction at all from the unit. No green led, no hum or buzz or any sign that anything is happening in there.

And to my knowledge, no, there was no surge, or lightning strike. I was using it on Monday night, and Tuesday night it didn't work. It was plugged directly into the wall socket the entire time. I haven't found any evidence anywhere in the house of any lighting or surge or anything. And there hasn't been any storms or anything here for a couple weeks, so no lightning.

              Thanks.

Your picture in post 7, I see from the bottom up: GND, GND, 24V, 24v GND, GND, 12VCC, NC, 5VCC, 5VCC, PWON, ACD, DIM, BLON.

My bad. You are correct. It's the 24Va that I should have had there. So both "12Va" items in my list should be 24Va. I was focused on the "Va" part.

Does this mean simply that the main board is finished? Or I there something further that can be done here?

Re: 40E210U toshiba will not turn on

At this point we need to get the main board working so it will send the needed signals.
We can try to see if the inverter circuit is working or not by removing the BLON that goes back to the main board first, and then use 100~1000 Ohms resistor between the 5V and BLON pin to simulate the BLON signal so you can see if the backlights circuit still function or not since you can have more than one problems in your TV.

Well that went over my head very quickly. Sorry, for taking your time, I'll just call the repair guy and see how much it'll cost. Thanks.
