Pulled y-main tonight, checked for cold solder joints, looks alright, but in the area's I got heat response, solder doesn't look shiney as rest of board. Those area's are the transformer have a dull look to the solder. I don't know if that is a sign of high heat in the area or not. Pic's are in album with the rest of board photos.

Does anyone think my transformer is bad, because of the reaction to heat!

It's unlikely to be the transformer, it's also unlikely to be a bad capacitor because they typically work the other way around (heat makes them work better.) It is probably something in the feedback circuit but without a schematic we may be out of luck.

What precautions are needed to replace the y main board. We all know when buying board's from ebay, that we hardly ever get what they are advertising, tested working board from a broken screen tv. Tested sure! I have to replace my y-main, with a used board and want to know what steps to take, to ensure I don't do further damage, if I happen to get another bad board. I do know I have to adjust voltage if necessary and VSC. Do I put y-main in first, without buffer and adjust voltages, or just install board, turn tv on and see what happens, then adjust voltages after, if necessary. Thanks all.

I would advise putting it in without the buffer.

Then, test VSC voltage and adjust to meet sticker.

And if possible, ypu can check VSCH voltage (about 130 to 150V, unrelated to VSC.) To do this some closer detail around the connections between the buffer boards and Y-main is necessary; though this can wait until you get the new board.

Make sure to adjust (where available) the Yrr and Yfr to match the original Y-main - just turn them so the arrow is in the same "o'clock" position.

Just got replacement board today, will do all that you suggested, and see what I end up with. Thanks George

Well all went fine with the board replacement, tv has been successfully repaired, thanks to all. Set has been on for a few hours now with no trouble, all adjustments made, before buffers were connected, Tom there is a test point for VSCH and adjustment. I didn't measure that yet, but I'll post reading later. all that is left to do, is clean dust and replace back cover. Thank you everyone for all the help in repairing this tv.
