    Samsung UA40J5200AK missing Smart features?

I picked up this TV a couple days ago and it's SUPPOSED to be a smart tv, however it doesnt have any apps or wifi settings to change. I cannot find this EXACT model, it's actually a slight variant that is turning up this information. This is a UA40J5200AKXZN.

The interesting thing about this tv is where it was made. It was made in Egypt. The closest information that I can find that could apply to this model is the following website:

    https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...QGzz1_Rs39JjUj

According to this, it would be a World-Wide model in which it will work anywhere in the world, with any power configuration, and with NTSC, PAL, etc. Also interesting is the fact mine has since sort of full sized media card slot.

I was curious if anyone has ever come across this model before, and if it's possible/plausible to flash the firmware from a variant that does contain the Smart features.. That is, if it physically has or can have a WiFi adapter.

Well now I'm gonna have to plug something in and see 😁

I'm curious to find out if that link I shared is relevant in regards to this tv working anywhere in the world and with any device.

So if there is a US variant with smart features, is it possible to flash the firmware to this one?

Download the service manual or find out how to change regions in the service menu (only changing settings in the service menu can lead to the TV not working, you need to know exactly what you are doing...).

Interesting find when I went into the software update menu. The model number programmed is different than that printed on the label. According to the software it is actually a UE40J5000. I plugged in a Chromecast and it worked flawlessly. The ANT IN is a different story however. It does not accept the standard coaxial connection we have here in the US.

how are you getting on with this tv?

what options are there in the user menu?

Service menu changes and fw flashing should be last resort!

Everything appears to be okay with it. All of the same settings as I see on US models appear to be present. It just isn't "Smart" despite the model supposedly being so. UA40J5200AK turns up as a Smart TV on Google, and that's what is printed on the label. UE40J5000 this in the software information, and does NOT show up as Smart on Google.

I think this may have been one of those models where they slap together over stock parts and give it a new model number.... It something funky like that 😆

Most likely, you have a motherboard from the UE40J5000 model (which has already been replaced) and this model does not support smart TV, but the native motherboard from the UA40J5200 this model supports smart TV. Here is a photo of motherboards with native eMMC, and the one currently installed with NAND.

You even have a LAN input for the Internet taped to the case.

😂 I completely missed that somehow! Okay so that means this was repaired before. Makes complete sense now. Guess if I want the smart features id need to get the correct board

Thanks for the help in this confusion 😁
