    2012 panasonic tc-p55ut50 7 blinks

Hi all I'm sure I can fix this but my panny mounted on the wall just took a dump tonight 7 blInks. unbelievable I hardly even use it just died I've been seeing a lot of newer model plasma TVs going south. Where's the quality control? Anyway 7 blinks is SS board Right?

it's probably one of those DG 302 MOSFETS
Did I leave the soldering iron on?

No, I would have been thinking SC/SD/SU first. Does put SS and A as 3rd & fourth of priority.

Not just newer plasmas, LED-LCD is the worst offender. At least in 90% of plasma fails you can fix it, not usually the case with LED-LCD panel failure.

Actually I was just surfing and one thing I noticed that whilst the 30 & 50 series were all SMD and very little in heatsinking, the last 60 series appear to have gone full circle and back to conventional through hole and decent heatsinks?

This turned out to be a shorted IC on the SU board. Replaced and all is well. Very little time on tv. About 150 hours. I might ad that the St and VT series seem to have heat syncs on the ics. This model does not. Hmmm

Did you replace the buffer IC or something else on the board?

              Just the buffer IC itself.

Any pics/tips or source of parts? I have a few buffers from the G20 but I expect too hard without hot air. Something I'd like to try if I can get the chips cheap enough.

                  I second that

Let me rephrase. My apologies. I would have replaced the buffer IC itself but I went thru my spares and found a good upper buffer board and swapped it. I would be inclined to repair the failed one which one IC went bad and shorted a segment of the IC below it as well. I will try to look for replacement ics. The 1080p ICs seem to have a great deal more pins than 720p ics. Although a pain to replace it's doable. I heat up with a hot air unit then lift off IC then flux and clean pads then fan the new IC in with a fine point soldering iron.

I have probably rebuilt 100 or so buffer boards so far. 95% success rate.

So have you done any of the 2010 FHD panasonic buffers? I find with the price of chips a used board is just as economic but I'm getting bored and have a few around which would be handy to fix.

No I have not. I could only imagine it's very similar to older designs as long as the pads hold up. Maybe I'll attempt a removal of the bad IC tonight just to see how it goes. I'll let you guys know my findings.

Well the chips are on tight but it came off. Lifted a few pads. I may have had to wait a bit longer but 480 degrees Fahrenheit should have been enough. Also lifted an smd capacitor

bugger. so not soldered underneath but looks like heatsink adhesive like the heatsinks attached to the top, under the chip to the board.??

So is it best to flow fresh leaded solder first on the pins then heat and remove?

Most likely yes. Also there was no sign of thermal paste on the old IC. It's all black underneath just like the top. No silicon exposure.
