Thanks R_J. I'll give it a try and I promise I'll be very careful. I know I won't be able to resist, it reminds me of good times working in a TV shop in the 70s when it was trimpots and coils and little magnets on picture tubes. I still have an HV probe I now use to scare little kids and drunk neighbors with when it becomes "the alien probe."

Well no dice. Mute then Mute+Menu gets me to the same ADDR display I got to before, however this time Menu button cycles thru 5 different ADDR displays then goes to the normal TV menu. I found some info in another forum showing the screens and talking about sub-selections but not enough detail to go forward on. Still looking but this is part of a post I found on Home Theater Shack:

I have not been able to get an "S" to show on the screen, or the test grids...

When I press mute, then press and hold mute while pressing menu, the tv displays some data in the top left corner... It read like this:

ADDR DATA
160H OEH
BINARY
00001110B


There are 5 groups of these with MULTIPLE data sets within....
Pressing menu changes between the 5 groups of data(group 5 is teal colored)
Pressing volume up/down scrolls between the data sets

Group 1 has 4 adjustable sets
Group 2 has 6 adjustable sets
Group 3 has 17 adjustable sets
Group 4 has 4 adjustable sets
Group 5 has 14 adjustable sets

The only place I can find what might be a service manual is:

But I can't tell from the preview they offer if it is really a service manual with the info I want. I'm willing to pay for an actual service manual. Is that what this is? (see attached pdf)

Every other link I've found searching only offers the user manual which I already have.

Any other suggestions on where to get the svc manual?

I bit the bullet and purchased the manual from the only place I could find it.

The convergence is adjusted using switches and VRs on the conv control board. The remote and on-screen address stuff are not involved.

Those are even harder to work with, don't expect perfection out of that system, its like trying to straighten a bent piece of wire with a hamer. Have fun..

I love the analogy of the bent wire and hammer It once again reminds me of my TV shop days as an apprentice wannabe. Old school style. I don't expect miracles of this machine at all, I just think it could be a bit better than it is. I've got to get in there and clean the lenses and mirror, at least the lenses as they have a smidgen of dust on them. I'm not sure how hard it's gonna be getting at the mirror. I'll probably try tweaking the other things when I've got it open but I will see how well a proper cleaning does first. I've been reading on AVS forum where there's a wealth of information too.

Wow. Awesome. Thanks a whole bunch for the training material, too, it looks very helpful to me, especially considering this is my 1st rear projection TV ever and I am happy to have the opportunity to work on it, so for me it is fun. I am extra glad I bought the svc manual and it only cost a penny more than the parts & shipping came to.

Thanks again to all who have helped me with this. I wouldn't have gotten it going at all without your help.
