    Samsung LCD LE40D503 Horizontal Bar

    Hi.

Really hoping someone can help or at least point me in the right direction. This is a 40" Samsung LCD LE40D503, just over 2 years old and out of guarantee. This translucent horizontal band has appeared on the top third of the screen, it seems to change color depending on the background picture, the band is made up from vertical lines.

I haven't removed the back as yet and was just wondering if by looking at the attached pictures it could possibly be repaired or be a write off (hope not )

Twisting the screen or pressing the surround does not make a difference. Could it possibly be T-CON

Any help and advice will be most welcome.

    Thanks

I think that's ANOTHER bad LCD panel. Sigh.

      Hi Tom66

Thanks a lot for your quick reply, so I guess its a write off then? Is there anything I can try just in case it may be something else? Or is it hey ho hey ho, its off to the tip we go!

      Thanks again

You can try a tab shim. Here is a different fault but the root cause may be similar:

Of course you can try a t-con board but I would be very surprised if it fixed it. But they will probably be cheap for such a new TV (2011.) The D-series Samsungs (32", 40", 46", 55") have terrible panel issues which are popping up recently. It's terrible, you spend a lot on a Samsung and you'd expect reliability, right...? Especially not the most critical part of the TV to go bad? Haha says Samsung, nope!

Ok, thanks again. I will try what you suggest and you never know, hopefully come up with a fix, I will certainly write Samsung a stinking letter, not that it will do any good but it will make me feel better! I'll report back with any results.

Re: Samsung LCD LE40D503 Horizontal Bar

            You should consider using SOGA:
            http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-righ...e-of-goods-act

A modern LCD should last more than 3 years.

            You need:
            - Receipt for TV or credit card/bank statement or other proof of purchase (warranty card)
            - A report from a TV technician stating the failure is not due to user damage - simply call a small local or one man business up and they will write one for about £10 to £20.
            - Go to the retailer NOT Samsung as your contract is with the retailer.

You can expect a small depreciation due to usage, but no less than the equivalent purchase price of a 40" CCFL LCD.

This is really interesting thanks a lot for letting me know, the problem could be I am an expat living in Spain and bought the tv from a large hypermarket here, I have the full guarantee etc but I wonder if what you suggest will apply here too?

              Thank so much.

Unfortunately, while SOGA gives you 6 years in the UK, the EU only have a 2 year implied warranty. It might be difficult in that case.

I thought that might be the case, nothing is simple in Spain at the best of times! Thanks for all your help.

Is the fix in that video fix only for vertical line problems or does it possibly cover the horizontal lines in the original post 1 photos as well?

Also, is this only a fix for intermittent problems that flicker when the screen is tapped? My problem looks solid, again as posted in the original photos.

                    Thanks for help..........
