Tab bond fault, almost certainly. Sometimes fixable, but in general for these models, the success rate is low (maybe 50%.)

Here is a different TV with a different fault, but the root cause is the same (tab bond fault)

              Re: samsung le40f86bd

The tab bond is failing permanently. Nothing can repair it unfortunately. As I said, the success rate with these panels is low.
Better save up for a new TV, but avoid an LED-LCD TV as this fault is getting worse.

I'd say Panasonic plasmas were good, but they stopped making them.
Samsung plasmas are terrible unless you spend big bucks.
LG plasmas are OK -- except one critical design flaw affects their Razor Thin sets. Do not squeeze or lift a Razor Thin LG by the panel edges.
Panasonic LED TVs are OK... aside from the sudden mainboard death symptom.

Also, Toshiba, Sharp, Hitachi and Technika are all made by the same company (and it's not good - all supermarket rebadge junk by Vestel.)

Instore warranties a waste of money, get one out of store every time.

Basically nothing left good in the market I can recommend any more, they all die too young.

              sigh

                  Re: samsung le40f86bd

Cooling down and warming up, you'll probably find the trick stops working after a few days/weeks.

I have had several sets with tab faults.

In my experience you can either fix them permanently (about 50% of the time) or temporarily (the other 50%.) If the fault (or a similar one) comes back, it's probably not going to be a permanent fix. However, if it holds for about a month, like one I had before did, then it's probably going to last for a very long time.

                      Re: samsung le40f86bd

I've heard of them lasting around a month, maybe two if you're lucky, but there's no way to be certain.
