    Samsung PS42Q97HD

i have a 42" plasma tv sat here. the original fault was that there were red lines and dots on the screen. so i opened the back and saw that 16 caps needed replacing. so i obviously replaced all of the caps. i then tested the thing and it just came up with a blank screen. i turned off and on again and saw that the blue light flashed 5 times and then turned off. when i read up on this it said to change caps?? looked at the y main board and a few of the green 2A fuses needed replacing. so i did and i still get the 5 blinks and no picture. please help, thankyou

As long as they were low ESR they should work.

Disconnect a board at a time from the PSU and switch the set on... check the standby led for the 5 blinks.... if still there turn the set off and reconnect the board... disconnect the next one and do the same until you dont have the 5 flashes.... that disconnected board will be your problem

i did as you said. i unplugged the y main. it still had the 5 blinks, and the same when i unplugged the x main. then i unplugged what i believe to be the logic board. this didn't even power on the tv. so lastly i tried unplugging the control board and the tv turned on did the 5 blinks and then turned itself off. it then proceeded to turn itself back on and do the 5 blinks again. it kept doing this in like an infinite loop

              Re: Samsung PS42Q97HD

If you used generic caps, you could have caused more problems than you originally had. Do not use generic caps. Panasonic FM/FR/FC are advised, generic Maplin special are not.

I have only ever seen bad caps on the Y-main of these sets. Never PSU.
5 blinks of LED is normal power up procedure.

              So check all soldering etc.

Red sparklies are usually caused by misadjusted Yrr/Yfr.
