    LG 42LE4500 Losing Backlights

I have noticed a couple of threads referring to this model but no real answer.

I picked up this set with the description of it switches itself off... After getting the set home and testing it I find it isn't actually switching off at all but its losing the back lights.

When the set is first turned on the back lights all light up and I read 12v going to them but then the voltage starts to rise and as soon as it hits 33v they cut out.

All pins from main to PSU read correct and are stable.

    Any ideas anyone?

Where are you measuring the 12V increasing to 33v? Pictures would help.

Phone is dead atm so will have to wait for pics... Im measuring these at the output of the PSU to the backlights

the 12v to 33v was measured at the blue highlighted connectors.

the red highlighted area reads correctly and is stable

          Those are the LED ones.
          How long does it last?
Long enough to hook it up to a PC with a full white image -- you will be able to see if the panel is unevenly lit -- probably a dud LED.

            Re: LG 42LE4500 Losing Backlights

lasts 2 seconds, at first it was working for 2 minutes or their abouts. previous owner said it can take a couple of days sometimes for it to go.

no way to have time to hook it to my pc though, wouldnt get chance to change the input

first run on it and i went into menus etc... they take most of the screen and seemed even... but cannot be sure

Does it do the same with the LED strip connector unplugged?

tried removing the led strips one at a time and powering on...

backlights switch off after 1 second instead

                    Re: LG 42LE4500 Losing Backlights

WIth led strips plugged in... switch set on.. voltage rises to 12v... then climbs to 33v and switches the strips off.... the voltage then drops back to 12v and is stable.

with strips unplugged rises to 12v when set is switched on... drops briefly to 0v then back to 12v and is stable

Sounds like somehow you have a short in the LED strips.

Checked via ohms down each of the strips and they don't read any signs of shorts.

I have just stripped down the panel and can confirm that all LEDs are lit at startup of teh set

Tom to test if it is one of the LED strips could I unplug the strip one at a time and put a resistor in place to fool the protection circuit into thinking that it is connected?

If so what rating resistor would you suggest?

                          Thanks

Unfortunately you'd need a huge resistor, of the order of 25W, not really practical.

I have took reading down the board.

Could something before them in circuit change the readings of the resistors or is it a case of no matter if they are on circuit or out they should always read the same?

I'm maybe picking up a 37LE4500 today with a working backlight but dead T-con. I'll try to make some comparative measurements if I get it. Obviously, it won't be identical but should be similar.

Hello, I have a problem with my Samsung UE48H6410SSXZG with the main board BN41-02156A and the power board BN44-00709A. Everything seemed like this, the TV could no longer be switched on, the standby LED always flashed 5x2 times. Backlight was off and no sound from TV. Also made the flashlight test and there was no picture.

                                          I made the following tests:
                                          1. Disconnected the main board from Power Board = backlight works.
                                          2. Connected the main board and disconnected the T-Con = backlights does not work.

So I ordered a main board from Ebay also BN41-02156A but from...

                                          VIZIO M557-G0: Backlights or ???

                                          'Morning,
I get sound and picture when powering on the TV and its stays that EXCEPT that the left half of the screen will dim every few seconds then return to normal while the right side of the screen performs as designed.

Did the soft and hard reset options pulling the plug, using the reet option in the vizio menu to no avail.

I checked the mainboard - found some popped capacitors so replaced it - but that did not change the situation.

I checked the t-con board. It is getting good power. Then I removed one ribbon cable to see if I could isolate...

                                          LG UH8500 Backlight Troubleshooting Help
                                          by htv239
                                          Hello,

I am currently troubleshooting an LG 60UH8500 TV (2016 TV). Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Overall Issue: When TV is turned on, backlights all come on for about 10 seconds, then all go out. There is sound and there is a picture on the display (obviously hard to see without backlights, but it is there).

What I Have Done So Far: 1) Removed the back TV cover to expose the boards (Power Supply, Tcon, and Main), 2) blew out any dust and cleaned all connections, 3) Noticed that the LED backlights are fed from two separate connectors...

Christmas lights - Something I am doing wrong
                                          by Francesc V.
                                          Hi:

i am trying to repair this Christmas lights from my parents. They are incandescent lights, no led lights.

I have tried with 12V a 24V small lights that I found in Aliexpress but is obvious that are not the right ones. They last microseconds connected. Do they blow because of Amps or Volts?

If I measure the Amps in the string........it's only 90mA. If I measure the Volts in the "green box"......it's between 0 and 190V, but doing a little bit of maths from the number of bulbs in series.......it's only about 6V per lamp.

                                          Could...

Hi everyone I have this TV which was dead one day when I tried to turn it on. I've had the cover off and there was just a pulsating/electrical clicking/ticking noise from the PSU. I disconnected the mainboard as sometimes this works to just fire it up with backlights on? That didn't help. Same noise. Then I disconnected the backlight cable from the PSU and the TV came alive. It appeared to respond to the remote and i'm pretty sure it's fully operational when there is no backlight connected.

However, I am in a dilemma.

I tested the backlight outputs with the lights disconnected...
