    Toshiba DVD Video Player SD290EKE psu exploded

    I found this unit near the recycle bin and I picked it. I plugged it in and initially it worked.

    Later, I inserted a DVD disk.

    It started reading the disk and displaying the menu of the movie, then suddenly a loud bang was heard, the IC of the psu caught fire and the fuse blew. Note that I had removed the cover and saw everything..

    The death of the IC happened because 1 of the 2 main capacitors (400V 15uF) had 1 of its legs cut! The other cap (400V 10uF) is okay, but I am going to replace it just in case.

    I need your help about the toasted IC. It is a "Q100 VK23". The only useful thing I was able to find online is that *maybe* it can be substituted with DH321. Is that correct?

    The symptoms sound primary-related. But is that IC even on the primary-side?

    It sounds like maybe some conductive film around some legs.

      I think this is the datasheet:

      In an Arabic forum they claim that:
      DH321 = DM0265 = Q100 = FSQ100 = Q100VK23 = DL0165

        I replaced the burnt fuse, the Q100 with DH321 and the 2 primary "ZHN" caps.
        The original caps were 10uF and 15uF. I used 10uF and 22uF.

        The 12V output capacity was just 47uF. I replaced the cap with a 470uF 16V.

        The 5V output filter consisted of 1x1000uF and 1x470uF capacitors. I used a 1000uF cap to replace the 470uF.

        It works.
