    Samsung PN43D450A2DXZA No Signal

    Hey there!

A couple of months ago, we had a power surge (or a few). It took out my PC and the plasma TV in the title.

Since then I have repaired my PC, but have been unable to get the plasma to work properly. It will power on, display input from my Xbox as far as games are concerned, but can no longer be detected by my PC (connecting via mini-hdmi OR DVI-HDMI adapter, I have both). Netflix also refuses to play anything on the TV. It gives an error message about output protection.

When I go into the TV's service menu, EDID is set to OFF. When I try to turn it ON, it responds that EDID on all HDMI inputs failed.

I have already performed a factory reset on the TV, but this hasn't worked.

Is there any way to fix this without opening the TV? If not, which part will I need to fix/replace?

    Thanks in advance.

It sounds like your main board is shot. Someone else might have a better idea.

      Thanks for the reply!

Has anyone seen an issue like this that might be able to tell me what to look for or which components to test? I have access to a multimeter and have no qualms with opening up the set. I'd like to confirm that this is the failing part before I order a replacement.

Does your TV mention HDCP status?

The HDCP keys are corrupt. These keys are used to decrypt the encrypted video signal. If you do not use encryted video playback on your computer (e.g. blu-ray, certain games) you can try to turn off HDCP output on your graphics card. Unencrypted video is then sent. Does the computer work? You won't be able to play back protected content if you do this.

The encryption has been broken already, but manufacturers are required to include it for their TVs to work with HDMI devices properly. It's damn annoying when it goes wrong... which is all too often. Doesn't seem to stop piracy either...

IIRC, the HDCP status was OK in the service menu.

The computer won't even detect that a TV is connected, no matter how it is. I have two 560ti's, and have tried numerous combinations. DVI-HDMI adapter, DVI-HDMI cable, miniHDMI-HDMI, using 1st and 2nd cards, disabling/enabling SLI, unplugging my other monitors, etc. PC just refuses to see anything connected. But there is connectivity there. The TV, when disconnected from the PC, says something like 'Check Signal Cable'. When connected, it just says 'No Signal'.

I have a Boxee that, when connected to the same HDMI port, will actually show a picture during the boot sequence, up until it loads the actual OS.

If it is indeed the HDCP keys, is there any way to fix this? If I'm somehow able to reset the EEPROM, will the EDID and HDCP keys be restored? Or will I just need to replace the board?

Ah... Actually, it may be a combination of EDID and HDCP. The EDID is used to store the modes that the TV supports. EDID information may be required to get HDCP to work (I'm not sure.)

Have you tried a factory reset yet? Perhaps it loads EDID data on reset. You can also try a firmware update, to see if that loads data in. Or, you could try a HDMI-compatible EDID editor -- some programs can edit the EDID memory but usually this is only supported on some VGA monitors. If none of those work, you will need to replace the main board.

Yeah, tried a factory reset-this didn't help. I thought about doing a firmware update, but the TV already has the latest version and I can't figure out how to force it to overwrite.

I toyed around with Powerstrip, but couldn't even get that to see the TV.

Replace the mainboard it is, then?

Yep. Make sure to match the part number -- up to and including the last character which is important.

Opened up the TV and the board is a BN96-19469A. ShopJimmy's says this and the BN94-04523A are interchangeable. Is there any benefit one has over the other?

Edit: Picture of board, for future readers.

                    Not that I'm aware of.

All you need to verify on these is the Panel Sticker Number is one of:
                    S42AX-YD15
                    S42AX-YB11

according to the Shopjimmy product page.

The panel number is printed on the SAMSUNG sticker on the back of the PDP assembly (the metal frame behind the glass screen, not on the cover of the TV.)

Samsung s21 sim recognized but no signal

                      Hi everyone,

I'm just starting out with smartphone repairs and picked up a Samsung S21 to work on. Everything functions perfectly except there's absolutely no cellular signal. The SIM card is recognized, WiFi works fine, but zero network signal.

I've tested my SIM in another phone and it works perfectly with good signal, so it's definitely the phone.

From what I've read online, this issue is usually caused by the network chip needing to be desoldered and reballed since one of the solder balls might be cracked.

I think I've located the SOC that...
