    Samsung 40" LCD

Ok at this time I do not have a model number, this is more of a general problem question...

I have my eye on this tv and the symptoms are as follows...

    1) can take anything between 1 and 10 minutes to actually switch on after pressing the power button.

    2) Once the set it switched on there is slight fading to the edges of the screen picture.

I am assuming the time it takes to switch on is most likely dried caps, anyone agree?

Not sure if the second issue is caused by the same fault/s?

    Any input would be appreciated

Get a model number. Only certain Samsungs are affected by bad caps, but a lot have panel issues.

That model has both bad cap and panel issues. I've fixed the LE40A656 with bad caps. But I've also heard of these models having panel issues.

I'd be right in thinking that the time it takes to switch on would be caps though right?

I will see if I can get any more info regarding the panel fading though...

Likely, but can also be main board (backlight on or off during fault), or if poorly described t-con or panel (assuming backlight is on during fault)

Ok after taking some time the set turns on completely, backlights light, picture, sound etc all fine... just a slight darkness down the edges of the panel on left and right... they come in about half an inch

Tv stays on and doesnt show any other faults.

Can you post a picture of the fault?

Ok had another message with corrections... It's lighter all the way around including too and bottom. Just waiting for a pic

Sounds like the backlights are dim, you think?

That may be because of low supply voltage, which may be from badcaps.

Indeed I can see the caps causing the power on issue... But it's actually brighter around the edge of the screen all the way around... I decided to leave this set anyway so onto bigger things lol

Always better to be safe than sorry...especially when it comes to a 40inch Samsung, any sort of screen issue with these things I always question if its worth the risk.

Tom, is there any reason you think the 40inch TV.s seem to have more panel issues than other size'?

Actually I'd say it's probably more 46/52 inch with panel issues though they're a few years behind us, I've only had three large panels out of fifty with tab bond issues, and no unrepairable panels yet. One 32" Samsung with fried driver chip, unrepairable.

I simply wasn't going to pay over £100 for a set that may well have a panel issue... 40" isn't worth it to me to be honest... 42 + for me.

I am getting better with my LCDs now as I have just sorted out 2 x vx2255wmb's and a flatron 22"... Did my own 32" goodmans and a 19" acer. But I think I will keep to where I was before and stick to my mobile phone repairs and reballing and reflowing motherboards etc

                              I wouldn't pay above £50 for a 40 inch. Rarely ever above £40. Where are you paying £100 for a 40"??
