Well after fixing my first LCD last week you guys inspired me to try again. I got on Craigslist and found a 42" Plasma Samsung to work on. Appears it had the bad caps on the power board and I felt like it was worth the 75 bucks the owner wanted. I pick up the tv and it is flawless in appearance. The owner tells me about clicking and not turning on. I load it up and get home and can't wait to look at that power board. Well I turn it on first to hear the clicking and the tv turns on right away. I can't get it to act up at all. What a great 75 dollar purchase. I have to say I am a little disappointed I don't get to work on it. Maybe it will start acting up soon but right now it looks like I bought a bargain.

Re: Samsung 42" Plasma
Well I spoke to fast on this one .... Watched it a few days and it finally did it. It turned itself off and then right back on again. Watched it for over an hour and no further problems. The next day same thing but it took it about 3 mins before it turned back on. I pulled the cover off the back and look at all the caps on the power suppply and they appear to be ok. I went ahead and ordered the repair kit off SJ and I'll see if it corrects the issue. I knew it was too good to be true but I really don't have a clue as to how to check the individual resistors or caps or mosfets to see which is bad. The SJ kit comes with about 16 parts so I'll probably replace them all and see what happens from there.

Re: Samsung 42" Plasma
Did you replace the surface mount components included in the kit? I'm assuming this is the kit you're referencing based on your "Looking to Buy" thread that mentions the HP-T4254 model: http://www.shopjimmy.com/samsung-bn4...repair-kit.htm. There's also a possibility that the mosfets you installed are now damaged if the full kit wasn't installed.
Chances are that any power supply you purchase, unless it's been repaired properly and recently, will exhibit the same issues shortly. One of the members here (electronicsurplus) has extensive knowledge of this power supply. https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showth...t=18611&page=2Last edited by capkid; 04-25-2013, 10:26 PM.

Re: Samsung 42" Plasma
Well since it's something that's only happened after you replaced all of those items, then it's likely to be something that you've done yourself unfortunately... Very unlikely that you were sent a dodgy IC. Though I suppose not impossible.
Did you have any problems resoldering the ICs? I'd check all the joints, and double check that all the ICs and caps are in the right "holes" so to speak.. Maybe check that none of the ICs are shorted before you power on again..

Re: Samsung 42" Plasma
A quite common issue with this set & intermittent power is dodgy solder joints on the transistors on the main heatsinks on the power supply. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

I did unplug the x and y board and still get the clicking though so I am sure it is something I did.

Re: Samsung 42" Plasma
I literally have the exact same issue with a Samsung 40" plasma I was helping my father with.
Bought it at a garage sale saying it had the clicking issue, worked fine for a long while when it came home. After a few click issues went to replace all the caps. The click issue only got worse. Went to replace with a "kit" sold online that replaces a bunch of stuff and now it does nothing.
Please update if you manage to find a reliable source for boards for Samsung plasma sets, we didn't have any luck finding one (for a reasonable price).

I've found this company to be fairly reliable. They also include a 6-month warranty: http://tristatemodule.com/p-7617-bn4...t4264xxaa.aspxLast edited by capkid; 04-27-2013, 11:37 AM.

Re: Samsung 42" Plasma
I'm going to say it could be cold joints again. It's -very- common with these Sammy plasmas. Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

Getting back to the PSU, it's either a bad component you were delivered or else something you did with the solder job... Why not try to solder back in the old components and see if you can get it back to the previous state... Then swap each component one by one, testing each one as you put it back in ..

Re: Samsung 42" Plasma
well I did find on one of the smaller IC's a burn mark on the rear side of the board. I thought for sure that IC was going to be the bad link. Then on the second smaller IC adjacent to it I noticed that half of the IC was gone. Looked like it blew out at some point. So I replaced both of those IC's and tested the TV. I got nothing but clicking so I replaced the two caps that came with the kit and then I still got clicking. I went ahead and changed out the larger IC's at that point. Still just clicking ..... I will check all the solder joints now and see what I get. I wonder if that is why the burned mark appeared on the rear of the board to begin with. I did find a new board online for a 102 dollars and might be the easiest route to take but then again I may just have the same problem in a couple of years.

Re: Samsung 42" Plasma
Well I got the board yesterday and it is obvious that it is a refurbished board. The ic's that I found blown on my board have been swapped out on this board. Plugged it all up and the tv now works great. The board does come with a warranty of 90 days so I am ok with the refurbished board. He also gave me a $30 rebate if I send the old board back to him dropping my cost to $72. All in all I got a 42 inch plasma up and running for less than $200 and it will probably end up in the kids dorm room this fall.
