Why would it be a good buy buy for the money ?

What are the know fault with the set what are they ?

I want to spend about $1000.00 on this tv new in the box

My parents bought a Samsung "Smart" TV fairly recently and all I can say is, it's anything but Smart. Can't pickup subtitles, has very few inputs, and Samsung SmartHub wants to update all the time (and each time it does that, it adds new and more useless apps to SmartHub - without my permission whatsoever). Also, there's an app for YouTube in SmartHub, but it sucks big time - it won't find even a tenth of the results that you would get in a browser.

The only thing I like about my parents' Samsung TV is that it can play MKVs and other multimedia files straight off of a flash drive. Sorry I don't have the model number for you, though. I'll try to get that.

they dont have very good feedback (slow browsing etc). its better to have a pc connected via hdmi

I was more going from the angle of them being very unreliable and poorly built.

But yes in any situation I would use a custom built quiet PC connected to the TV. Just has more performance, more customisability, and can do almost anything.
