Hi to all I am new here and have a question. I own a Sony KDL-60-EX500 one day the TV went out it has a black screen but I do have full backlighting and sound just no picture.I also notice the front panel blinks 5 times. My question is should I replace the T-con board or the Main board what are the odds of either boards fixing the problem? When I power TV on it shown Sony logo and startup sound then screen gets dark but I do have full backlighting any help is appreciated thank you all.Leave a comment:

Re: LCD TV and Monitor basic troubleshooting guides
OK i spent some time and discovered the following.
Bad cap C131 had value of 39uF and ESR of 2ohm. It should be 47uF and 70mOhm. So ESR was way higher than needed.
C102 was OK with capacitory, however, ESR was 0.173ohm. I replaced it anyway.
Since I did not have tantalum capacitor and could not keep TV open I had to fix it right away. I used 39uF 100V ChemiCon capacitors, 3 of them in parallel so I got ESR exactly 0.070ohm while capacitance was around 120uF.
These caps were replacement ones for the old projection TV, chassis RCT CTC169 (power supply).
One note I wanted to add is that Fluke 28 measured 52uF for defective cap so this means that we should not rely our decitions based on capacitance value measured by regular DMM.
Also Sencore LC103 is outdated for these new stuff, it measures as low as 0.01ohm and its test leads as well as relays inside, which become old, are not reliable way to measure such a low ESR.
Here are few pictures to share..Last edited by skafiskafnjak; 07-09-2017, 01:01 PM.Leave a comment:

WHat if I use 5x 10uF electrolytic in parallel?Leave a comment:

Re: LCD TV and Monitor basic troubleshooting guides
They used 47uf 10V SMD Solid Tantalum cap which has low ESR and also does not dry out and deteriorate with times like typical lytics cap, it also smaller than lytics cap with the same value.

Re: LCD TV and Monitor basic troubleshooting guides
Samsung LNXXA550P3 series with bad caps on the main board, TV makes squealing static sound through speakers, cycle on and off, etc.
Temporary solder in 100uF 10V low ESR cap in parallel with C102 to see if it solves the problem, but make sure the power supply caps are OK first.
KEMET Polymer Tantalum caps can be used.Leave a comment:

by momakaNormally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow.
But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though.
I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

by wattageHello Badcaps Community,
I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.
The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...-

by Rick_1234Good evening, gentlemen.
I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.
To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.

by momakaLooking through my repair pictures and notes, it's been a long time since I posted anything in the LCD monitors section. So here goes that.
I'm dedicating this thread to one of the very first LCD monitors I repaired (if not the first one), which was more than 10 years ago now. The monitor is a Wise Wing, model F199. It's a 19” CFL-backlit LCD. I got it for free off of Craigslist in 2009 from a guy, who said he bought it for cheap from Wallmart and the monitor worked only for a little less than 2 years before quitting.
When I saw the Craigslist post, I wasn't...-
