Toshiba 37AV500U Inverted Picture/Colors On All Inputs

Hi, I bought this TV along with 4 others from someone who bought a foreclosure and the owner left at least 8 TV's and other misc. electronics in the garage. They all had been opened up which sucks and I usually stay away from those but I only paid $16 each and they all power up with misc. issues.
(Tom, 2 are big 50" Plasmas I will be counting on your help with those for sure !! I haven't repaired a plasma yet...

This one has powers up and has normal audio and backlight, however as you can see the colors are inverted. I've seen this problem before on here and assumed the main board to be the culprit but never saw a resolution..

I tried HDMI, component, RCA, and coax inputs and all do the same thing. However, the on screen display seems OK although around the borders there is some colors that don't seem like they would normally be there.

Any thoughts on whether it's main or T-CON board? Thanks!

For this set the T-con setting is almost certainly wrong, as I have seen it before on Toshibas. Sometimes turning down the contrast gets the picture back to normal but the best way is to set the panel data correctly from the service menu.

Turning down the contrast helps the picture but doesn't fix it. Unfortunately I don't have a Toshiba remote to work the menus so I just ordered one. When you say set the panel data correctly what do you mean exactly??

There are settings to control which panel the main board is configured for.
BTW, which panel does this model use? LG Philips is common for Toshiba of this generation.

Panel is an IPS Alpha AX094B002A

So it looks like I need the remote to get into the service menu, and what should I be looking for??

The service manual will tell you.
My service manual site is down temporarily, it will be up soon.
However elektrotanya may have the manual in question.

I see it has "-IPS" in the firmware version so you may simply have to find a main board which is from the IPS version. The main board is probably for a different panel and that might not be something you can change.

On some Toshibas it is possible to update firmware through PCMCIA/CableCard slot.

That's the only way I can see that happening, or if the panel has been swapped and the main board and PSU are originals.

Anything is possible I guess I will see what firmware is on there when I can get to that menu.. Do you know if it's possible to get there without the remote?

I doubt it. Very few service menus are accessible without remotes. Of course you could always try a universal remote with a Toshiba program set.

hello, i just bought same tv for 40.00 on cl, turns on, backlight come on , no display..,no picture..anybody know any common issues with this model? thanks

Sounds like a t-con issue you'll have to dig deep to get to it, check that you're getting voltage there.. You can't get any menu either?

hi, no menu,,, back light comes on just dark screen lit, hope you figure out your problem

I wonder if IPS Alpha panel will use AS15G IC too. I'll take a punt that Panasonic will use their own silicon on it.

Tom just realized that that a Toshiba 32AV500U was also part of this package of TV's I bought, it has a bad slave inverter but seems to be fine other than that. It also has an IPS Alpha panel AX080E002B. Is there anything I can do or try from this TV for this contrast issue??

By the way any chance it could be the t-con board?? I think I saw one for about $12..
