Hi, I have a Lg LCD tv that works fine for a half hour but then the image disappears. The audio and back light stay on but the image goes off. Any ideas on what it might be? I bought this for 50 bucks knowing this thought it would be a fun project. Anyway the previous owner said he replaced both the master and slave inverter boards and no luck. Could it be the psu overheating being that it turns off after a half hour? Also you can turn it off and on and the image goes away after about 5 min. I didnt notice any leaking/bulging caps On the psu. When it was on, it felt warm in the area around the psu and I could feel the vents on top warm air was coming out, and it did smell warm but it didnt seem unreasonably warm. Any thoughts? I can post pictures or go more in depth if wanted. Thanks!

Re: LG LCD 47in has no image after about half hour
Sounds like something is overheating. Could be a capacitor on the verge of failing and the extra heat from the TV being powered on is sending it over the edge.
I had an LG with no picture but with sound and it was a y-sus board problem. I guess it could be a power board problem but the fact that the sound stays on makes it less likely I think.
I have never faced an overheating problem, but I know you can get some freeze spray to help determine the problem. Wait for the picture to go off, and then start freezing components that are in question and see if the picture comes back on. I'm not positive, but I think you could just buy some "air duster" cleaner and turn the can upside down and you have freeze spray. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Also, you should check if its the picture going out or just the back light. Wait for the screen to turn off and then shine a flashlight into it and see if you see an image. If so, you have a back light problem and not a picture problem.Last edited by mattpd; 11-08-2012, 03:25 PM.
