Samsung T5076S hundreds of dead pixels (White dot syndrome)

I picked this TV up at a good price, but it's already starting to seem like a lost cause.

It appears that these dots caused by a failing optical block, the person who sold it to me said they had paid to have it diagnosed, and that "the DMD chip needs to be replaced, and only cost $30". Which turns out, is a load of crap.

And if I disassemble the block, isn't there a BIG risk, of contaminating it with dust? (Assuming it's even possible to disassemble...)

I have fixed 3 plasmas and 7 LCD TVs, but this is only my 2nd attempt at a projection TV.

It's the DMD/DLP chip, the mirrors are stuck in the ON position, hence the white pixels. Common failure you get one or two failing and the rest follow over a couple of months usually. If you can get the DMD chip cheap it may be fixable.

I removed the DMD chip, it's was not difficult at all, it's a socket.

Cheapest I've found is ShopJimmy for $188.00 USD, Ouch!

Just one more question, what did you mean by "you get one or two failing and the rest follow",...??? I only saw one chip, are you referring to something else?

And If anyone is selling a DMD chip from a scrap Toshiba, Samsung or Mitsubishi DLP, please contact me. The chip is found in many different models, and is model 1910-6103W

It's a defect with the DMD... one or two pixels fail, the others follow, because they are all manufactured on the same substrate, they take similar amounts of time to fail.
