OLEVIA TV LCD shadows top edge

    Olevia 242-s11 (242V ?)
    FSP271-4F02 supply
    LG 6332L-0371A and -0372A inverters

power outage blew my power supply couple weeks ago.
it cam back on after outage with a screen distortion that i was able to
clear up switching source signals via remote.

new power supply came with new cables.
connectors were different so could not use old cables.
testing the TV all worked but no backlight.
ordered a used master from ebay..nada got the slave from same guy ...nada
the power supply cable for the master had a mistake OR the model was a variation that the blue inverter ON signal? wire was cabled to pin 14 but the original cable had it on pin 12.
i removed the pin and inserted it to pin12 and VIOLA! backlight!

now i have a new unexplained series of small shadows on the top 3/4 inch of the LCD .
a series of evenly spaced analog shaped shadows.
did i damage the panel during dismantle?

It's hard to tell but it looks like mura to me.

Mura is cloudness or unevenness in the LCD panel.

      There are two causes:
      - Backlight diffuser failure
      - LCD degradation

The backlight layers can accumulate moisture, or fade with time due to the heat produced by the backlight. This can sometimes be fixed by cleaning the layers after removing them from the TV (difficult job.)

LCD degradation can't really be fixed. Sometimes loosening the screws a bit can reduce the mura effect for LCD failure.

It likely has been there most of the time, but you have only just noticed it?

Re: OLEVIA TV LCD shadows top edge

while exploring i chose to loosen up the support frame and front bezel on the right side (from the back) which would be the left side.

the heavy panel assy. unmoored and gently swung forward only a bit but startled me as an accident in progress. the left (loose) side moved out about a couple inches and may have pulled gently on still tightened left (right) side screws putting a minor "wrenching" action on the screws about the right top edge.
this seems to agree with the size of the shadow spots which are a bith larger on the right nearby where the still tight bezel screw is located above the panel.

i'm wondering how near each of these shadows are to the bezel screws.

also i stored the tv on its end while waiting for the power supply delivery for about 3-4 days.

i noticed on a 19 lcd monitor i dismatled that there was a copper foil across the top edge makes me think top edge should be avoided and stored in proper upright orientation
        to respect physical design strength.

the intensity of the shadows has greatly reduced since i first got the blacklight
          working and noticed it.
i was on "radiance" wallpaper and now switching back to that after experimenting with
color backgrouds, they are barely noticeable in that dark area.

they were much more white-ish and obvious before.
running about 4 hours now since then.

if it was reduced from warmup and like it is now it IS possible i could have overlooked it before.
only obvious now in white or bright colored area.

            watching tv hardly noticeable now.
warmup i think is reducing it.

does bluescreen from (no source) speed warmup compared to a dark desktop
            background?

a moment after first start switching that seemed to reduce the boldness of the shadows almost immediately

Re: OLEVIA TV LCD shadows top edge

Hi just for clarification i do work for shop jimmy and i'm glad Randy was able to help!

Like Tom66 said sometimes you can remove it, if its due to dirt or moisture getting in there. I wouldn't recommend doing it unless it was really bad, LCD panels are very fragile and its really easy to break them (we know this from experience!). If you don't notice it on most sources and images i'd leave it alone. If it gets worse in the future (to the point you think about buying a new monitor) then it could be worth opening up to see what is causing it.

If you need more advice with this or anything else we'd be happy to help as much as we can!
