    RCA PTK195 Chassis Hints!

A friend got an RCA PTK195 chassis big screen analog TV with an intermittent no power issue. He was *paid* to haul it off.

After fixing a couple marginal joints and putting the unit back together it fired right up...for about an hour, then it died.

From then on, the TV became picky when and if it would power up and it never remained on for more than an hour or two.

All electrolytic caps were OK, all the secondary supplies looked OK and nothing was getting too hot when it did run.

    So what was the issue?

    GLUE! MOTHERF**KING GLUE!!!!
    !

These units used glue during the pick and place process to hold SMD caps and resistors in place for soldering. This glue becomes conductive over time and if it does so under the RFI snubber caps on the clock and data lines, the set will die. Our issue was on the convergence board near the big IC under the shield. C19503,19508 and one other which I forgot were the culprits.

It passed a 24 hour burn in and powers up every time now. We now have a really big TV for our old consoles.
