    Philips 50pfp5332D/37 power issue

I've seen this TV issues covered all over the internet and forums, but I cannot seem to find a SOLID answer. Or when someone does figure out what fixed their set, they don't post anymore to let others know. If I'm reposting this question improperly, I apologize as I have searched the internet since last Friday before doing so. I have this set, with power supply LJ92 01511A.

When I plug it in, it turns on and screen works. If I press the menu button or either channel button on the side when the set it on, it shuts down. If I hook up a DVD player and put a movie going, it plays for about 10-15 seconds and shuts down. I receive 2 green blinks on power board and 6 red blinks on front panel. If I just let it sit and do nothing with it (no input source), it seems to stay on, or at least a lot longer. The only way to turn it back on is unplug/plug it back in. I've replaced capacitors DC8402, DC8410, DC8413, DC8414, DC8417. One was puffed up, and the other ones were just recommended from another post to change. Still having the same problem.

I found (and now accidentally closed and lost) a thread which PlainBill posted the standard troubleshooting routine. I went through the steps and here are my results:

    1. All cables connected, plugged in set, it turned on, measured voltages on the power supply outputs. Vs=207 , Va=63, I didn't know how to measure Vset or Vscan, Vg=16 D5V=5.22, Vsnd=17.3, Vs_ON=3.2

    2. Disconnected cable to Z-sustain board, voltages remained the same

    3. Reconnected Z-sustain board, disconnected Y-sustain board, voltages remained the same

    4. Disconnected both boards, TV would not power up. It would try for about 3 seconds and shut down, receiving a green LED blink code of 1 on the PS.

    5. Disconnected all cables from the PS except the 120v power from the wall, received voltages of Vs=1.19 , Va=.37 , Vg=15 , D5V=5.22 , Vsnd=17.3

Does that basically narrow it down to my power supply for surely being no good? Is there any other fixes I could try on it since all the capacitors look good and feel "warm" after the set is on for a while?

    Thanks in advance, Kyle.

My first post! I'm not by any means knowledgable in TV repair, but I'm trying, I'd hate to throw away my 50" tv if unnecessary. If I get any responses, please try to be clear as to what you're telling me as I don't know the "short terms" and tv lingo, yet

Edit: Also, if it matters, the picture when it is working is normal as well as the sound.

It seems I can press the channel buttons now, just not the Menu button or it shuts off.

Did you read this thread. He was having a problem with the tv not turning on at all and it turned out to be the logic board. Yours maybe on its way out? The voltages you posted seem to be correct from the philips 50" plasma that i have but there is a sticker on the back of the panel that tells you what they should be.

Ok thanks, I will go through that thread again and see if I missed something the first time. And yes, the voltages are correct according to the sticker when both sustains are connected. I'll update after I go through his thread when I get back to town later this week.

It seems his problem was a little different than mine, as well as the led lights on the logic board. Kinda at a loss as to what to try next. Does anyone know if the led 2002 on the logic board is supposed to be blinking when the tv is on?

Mine did. I believe it blinks because it's getting a signal.

Put in the new main board, and the set was working fine but seemed a little more pixelated than I recall. I pressed the key entries for the screen diversity after installing the board, and the tv turned off as it was supposed to. I turned it back on, typed in the code for the Service Alignment Mode and pressed the Info key as I was supposed to on my remote. The set turned off, and now won't come back on and stay on. I was using a universal Philips remote, do you think it could have entered something wrong? How can I get it back?

The steps I followed were from here:

So I put the old main board back in the tv. It fired right up and has been working just fine for hours now, aside from the colors seeming a little strange. I did adjust the VS voltage screw down just a little bit when I was tinkering around, could that have affected the colors/display? It's just...not as clear in some scenes...hard to explain. Blotchy coloring when people in the movies are "close to the screen?"

                    Re: Philips 50pfp5332D/37 power issue

New here and a real novice so be gentle. Have similar problems so posting this in this thread. A friend has a Philips 50" plasma 50PF7220A/37 which we use to watch sports. It was given to him about 6 months ago since it had 'problems' powering on etc. We got it to come on at the new location so we got lucky for a couple months. But then it went off and wouldn't come back on no matter what we tried. I do all the gang's tech work so I did some checking on Internet and saw all the posts about similar problems with these tvs.

We laid the tv on the table and opened up the back. I quickly saw 3 capacitors puffed up on the power board. I've not done a lot of soldering so took the board to a repair shop where I had the 3 bad caps replaced for $20 (I forget now which ones). Put it all together and it worked better than ever. I looked like a genius to the gang. Well, that lasted about 2-3 months and tv started having trouble coming on again. The other day I did the unplugging, waiting, plugging back in a few times but still no power on. Left it plugged in awhile but then all of a sudden we heard a loud pop from inside tv. I thought it'd be easy to spot something burned up inside.

Opened it up again and looked inside but we could see nothing apparently burned. Looked closely at all caps and other parts, tested all fuses but found nothing bad. There are 2 green LEDs on power board but only the one marked LED 8002 is solid on when plugged in; 8001 never comes on. I saw no other LEDs other than the red and green ones at left bottom (as seen from front).

When we plug it in the green LED light in left bottom corner comes on for 7-8 seconds but then the red one flashes 7 times, short pause and then again 7 flashes, etc. Somewhere online I read 7 flashes means bad y board.

After figuring out what board is what I disconnected Y and plugged TV back in. No change. Tried disconnecting X board but nothing different. I'm stumped and probably in over my head now. Too heavy to haul to repair shop and I'm hesitant to buy new board and then still have problems. Why put more money into an old TV which is apparently on its way out.

                    So, any suggestions? Thanks, Don

Oh, what bad luck..!!!! There was a class action suit recently for this model and other Philips models but suit is now closed and settled. Late again......!!
