    F#$@! YEAH!!!!! SWEEEEEET!!!!

It's working!! The picture is ultra nice! I'm
in awe of how much they have improved LCD, in terms
of widening the viewing angle! It's almost as nice as my
40"! Digital TV is ultra sharp!

Ok details. I was too cheap to spend $25 on Chip Quick,
so I just cut the leads, and pulled the chip. I did slightly
bend a pad, but it went well nevertheless (Chip Quick looks
awesome, and I saw it for $18 at my local electronics
place, so I might give it a try next time).

Installation of the inverter chip and mosfets was easy. The meniscus, surface tension effect of molten solder makes it easy actually, especially with the reasonably large pitch on this chip. I just made sure
I used plenty of flux paste first.

Total spent on parts: About $30.

Thanks to Rayrod and Tom, and everyone else
    for their suggestions.

I think most people here will agree that repairs like
this are in some ways more satisfying than jobs that are super easy.

This website is incredible, and you boys are helping me pay the
    Goddamned RENT!!!!

    LOL!!!!!

      Awesome!

I'll be repairing TVs in university to keep the rent payments up, too. If I have the time while doing a MEng Electronics Engineering . I'm sure I'll be popular with a 50" plasma.

Out of curiosity, what were the caps on the power supply? Good or bad? Any CrapXon, like newer Toshibas have?

Well, I buttoned her up already, but looking through
the back, I could see some Rubycons, although I'm
not sure if there is a mix of brands.

Yeah, if it wasn't for goddamned Walmart, we could be
        self-employed! haha!

Oh, and I was wondering: how much would this tv
fetch in your neck of the woods? It's in like-new condition!

The Toshiba I have has Rubycons, Chemicons and Nichicons - all high quality caps. On the secondary DC-DC board there are some Jamicons, which aren't as good, but they are in a low stress position after an LC filter so probably okay there too. Jamicon are one of the better cheap brands. Still wouldn't trust them much though.

          Well, it's "only" 720p. I sold a 720p 40" Samsung for £190 and 37" is pretty close. So about $300.

Do you normally replace these not-as-good caps,
even if they are not currently the problem? As everyone
knows, caps can be damn pricey!

Yeah, $300 sounds about right. I posted it on Craig's
for $350, not really expecting to sell it, but just to make
myself feel better about not under-bidding myself. I'll
probably decrease the price in increments of $25 until
            it sells.

I'm not in a hurry to sell......and the picture is wonderful!

            Wow!

Not unless they are in a high stress environment, like directly on the output of an SMPS. If they are on the main board or a DC-DC converter I leave them.

Sounds like a good idea, thanks again.

                Ok, READY FOR ANOTHER TV!!!

                  Paul678,
I was searching for help diagnosing a bad D4SBS6 and saw you were successful in repairing your tv. If you don't mind me asking:

1)How did you test it? Simply by removing it from the board and testing resistance/continuity with your meter? Or did you apply voltage to the part?

                  2) Did you also replace the D4SBS6 with the KBU4J?
