    PT Series Samwha

Anyone have any information on this capacitor? This appears to be the top secret capacitor that the government is trying to hide. There's no information that I can find about it. The one thread I did find did not resolve anything. The guy never even replied what his replacement was. The cap I have is an aluminum electrolytic Samwha 'PT' series 50V 100uf 105 degree C with dimensions of 10mm D x 16mm H x 5mm spacing. Its got a bulging top. Thanks.

A Panasonic FC or FM should work.

Are you sure it's not an RT series?
PT doesn't even show up in their obsolete list.
RT shows up as replaced by WL.

          Re: PT Series Samwha

Well, just to consolidate, this has to do with my other thread I started https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=15970. I spotted the bad capacitor when I was putting the TV back together and decided to replace the cap with one I had laying around. I didn't have time to wait for shipping. It had the same 100uf and same 50V but its a general type with an unknown ESR. That's the only thing I changed that was questionable. The previous owner of the TV (my friend) said it was working fine one second and then it didn't the next. So, i'm hoping that by replacing the general purpose type cap with a low-ESR type, I can solve my problem. You can see what else I changed by reading my other thread.

P.S. - Just wondering if i made a good choice in caps when i replaced the other ones. Is a 3300uF 16V Nichicon HE series similar enough to replace a 3300uF 10V Samwha WB? I think it does but i'm nowhere near as knowledgeable as some others here.

            Re: PT Series Samwha

You just squeaked by with the HE.
            Samwha WB 3300uF 10v .. Ripple = 2770 .. ESR = .018
            Nichicon HE 3300uF 16v .. Ripple = 2880 .. ESR = .020

An FC would NOT have made the grade [not an adequate Ripple Current rating] which is why I say to check the specs [if you can find them] before choosing new caps.
FC are 'entry level' when it comes to low ESR so I don't recommend using them unless you have some idea about what the old cap's specs are.

If you can't find the specs DEFINITELY fail to something better than FC.
            - LOTS of crap brands have caps spec'ed better than FC.
            - Some ~WAY~ better.
Thus: FC is a poor choice as a default when you don't know the old specs.

Samwha makes -many- series that are ~WAY~ better than FC so defaulting to FC for a mystery Samwha series would be a really bad choice.

The PT is a mystery series [can't find anything on it] so I would use AT LEAST a Panasonic FR or FM to replace it - and keep my fingers crossed.
