    Samsung LCD TV Capacitor Identification

This is my first post so try to be nice I have a Samsung LCD TV Model LNT4061F. It has some bulging caps on the power supply board. I have been able to ID most of the caps but I am confused on one of them.

It is a SAMWHA WB series
    25V, 1000uF, 105oC (M) WB
It also has the letters PET and V2A on it.

The reason I am so confused is that there is another cap right beside it with the following specs:
    25V, 1000uF, 105oC (M), WB
It DOES NOT have PET on it, and has V3A on it.

The caps are different in physical size, but the specs seem to be exactly the same.

I cannot figure out what the heck the PET means, and what the V2A and V3A is. Another reason I am so confused is that the one with PET on it is larger in diameter than the one without it. I found the data sheet for the SAMWHA caps, but it says nothing about PET or V3A, V2A.

    Another Shot of the caps:

I already ordered some replacement caps from digikey with similar specs as the NON PET cap. I was just going to use the same new caps to replace both of the old 25V caps, even though the physical size is a little different on the old ones. I'm just a little worried since they are clearly different caps. One last note, the caps in the 2nd picture are not bulging but the ones around them are really bad. I was just going to replace them all while I'm at it since they sit about 3mm from that heat sink. I may add a small cooling fan to the TV too!

Any help would be great. Sorry for such a lengthy post. Thanks.

Re: Samsung LCD TV Capacitor Identification

Please don't post pictures inline. It slows down loading and really annoys retiredcaps. Use 'Manage Attachments' (below the test entry area) instead.

The important information about the caps are the manufacturer, series, capacity, voltage, and dimensions. I've been told (and believe) that PET indicates the material of the sleeve. The V2A and V3A are probably date codes. Whle Samwah caps are generally good, they HAVE had several bad production lots in a few voltage / capacity ratings. Obviously you have some of those. At a minimum I would replace ALL caps of that capacity and voltage.

I had a similar problem with a Samsung TV, and the ESR of most of the caps was well within specs. A few were obviously bad.

Thanks for the quick response, and the tip on managing attachments. I will be sure to use this in the future.

I have ordered some caps that seem to have the same "important" specs as the originals. I will soldier them in hopefully by the end of the week or early next. I'll try to put up some pictures of the final product (assuming its fixed) when I'm finished in case anyone else has a similar problem and wants some tips. Thanks.
