    big-220volt or small-12/5/ volt caps?

PC m.board resets guess due to faulty supply(works ok with a new though stronger supply) so which caps to replace first?(visually all look ok)
    tnx

Brand/model of psu as well as brand of capacitors in it.

Pics would be helpful, may not be caps that are bad.

yup, pics would be helpful. and check the voltage on all rails to see if there's any indication of failure in psu components..
days are so short when you actually do something..

it is a regular no name supply another manifestation is if it does not work and reset than it would not put graphics on monitor at all
Vacuum cleaned it inside as well as the m.board-no help , you suspect some supply /mobo transistors or regulators ?

Still a brand of psu would be nice, as some psu's can be good just not like the motherboard.

My friend has a really nice 700W delta power supply that he runs with his EVGA board, but he can't shut it off or he has to plug in a different power supply then take it apart and put the delta back in for some reason.

Anyways, capacitors can go bad without visual signs, but we need a better description of the problem. So you will just be doing something and it suddenly resets itself?

well first noticed supply runs but mobo would not put graphics to monitor then opened both
and Vacuum cleaned now PC sometimes works until it resets ater you start a major hdd operation , and then works for a minute until another reset..
            with another supply everythng ok

Well there should still be sticker somewhere on the power supply. Just take it out of the computer and look for it. Also pictures would be really helpfull.
Reason we ask you for brand/model and pictures is because the PSU might not be that bad but it just could be that the capacitors in it have gone bad. But if it's a bad power supply, new capacitors won't help it.

Seasonic B12 BC-550 – barely 2 years old and with BAD CAPS already!
                  by momaka
I know I've been a little scarce lately (like the last 2-3 years), but I'm still here and still doing my thing with fixing PSUs.

For today's considerations, I have a Seasonic B12 BC-550 [A551bcafh] 550 Watt ATX power supply for you (click on links for full size images).

It's a modern ATX unit with fixed (non-modular) cables and an 80-plus bronze certificate. Here's the label:

rio volt portable mp3 cd player. What type of caps are these?
                  by GraphicMan
                  Hello
this is a rio volt portable mp3 cd player main board
accidentally its 120ac power adapter was used with 220ac
the unit worked for few seconds and then off and never worked again
it normally takes 3volts batts or 4.5dc from the adapter socket

in the picture I believe this is the main power IC (4 channels)
it is the only area in the board that barely gets warm after few minutes
drawing 0.4 watts in total continuously

i did checked all the caps on the board including these caps around the IC
                  nothing is shorted...

                  Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps
                  by eryjus
                  Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."
                  ...

Identifying caps on an old Zoom 9000
                  by Paxman_Swede
                  Hello!

I have two projects on my work bench. One is a friends dead JBL Xtreme speaker with a blown voltage regulator and corresponding bulged and shorted cap. That cap has clear markings so I know what replacement I need for it.

The other project however is a whole different deal. It's a Zoom 9000 guitar effect from the 90th that has developed a devil hound howl when there is no input from the guitar. I'm guessing caps problem. So, since I don't really use this effect anymore I thought it would be a perfect project to learn on.

I have studied the board and...

Help with switching power supply caps
                  by captain150
I'm trying to repair two old VCRs, they both have bad caps. One has leaky ones, the other would barely run until I subbed in some caps from another power supply I had laying around (though they are the wrong values). This vcr works for an hour or two, but then the power supply starts whining and the picture gets lines in it. I didn't replace all the secondary caps, so another voltage might still be problematic, or the values I used are too far off.
I've been on mouser and digikey but the options are a bit overwhelming. I just need some new ones that will work. They don't need to be top quality,...
