To locate the source of a buzz (or any other sound) I use a cheap stethoscope with the chestpiece removed and a cheap ball-point pen plastic case inserted in its place. The pen body is just to give a stiff handle to probe with. I learned that from an auto mechanic who used one for locating engine noises. However, I think you can get the about same result using a length of plastic tubing to one ear and plug your other ear, just be very careful about sticking the tube into your ear.
