    ICT charger series ICT2012-12BC

I had a ICT2012-12BC charger series PSU here on my bench that didn't want to turn on. The light inside the on/off switch worked, but the rest was dead as a door nail. This PSU has a digital display and it needs to boot for a few seconds before it turns on.

    Replaced:
    C13, C15, C18, C33, C35, C36, C49, C51, C55 electrolytic capacitors.
C56 (very top right corner)is a film capacitor 63V, 1uF. It was blown wide open on this one.
I also replaced the 2 capacitors on the display board (not shown).

Problem taking it apart is that almost everything is riveted to the chassis. I ended up drilling out 2 rivets from the 115/230V switch on the back, in order to take the board out. I replaced the 2 rivets with screws, washer and nuts.

All small electrolytic capacitors mentioned above, were either really toast (over 20 Ohms ESR), or not far from it being bad. Needless to say: Another one saved from the junk bin!

It's a neat little PSU, that has 13.8V backup battery capability.

I see japlytics everywhere... even the best electrolytic capacitors are not immune from failure, especially the small ones.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

May have been just GP series, they are quite often used in such devices.

Hey japlytic, do you use Eneloops?

Yes, I do, and Sanyo (now owned by Panasonic except for the semiconductor divsion which is now owned by ON Semiconductor) is my favourite brand of Ni-MH and Li-ion battery, and I use Eneloops in a radio test set as a high capacity (and long life, considering the low self-discharge rate of Eneloops) replacement for a NiCad memory backup battery which has failed.

Cause I've seen on candlepowerforums that Panasonic started to only supply you (along with whole Oceania region) with them made at some shitty china factory. According to their testing those are crap which handle only about 400 to 500 cycles.

As I have ppl coming here and there iregularly, I can supply you with true japanese, or even cheaper Fujitsu…and than there are still the caps

The original caps in that PSU were all Nichicons KME series that failed or close to fail. PSU has a 2003 stamp on the board.

Eneloops? My favorite. Next Imedion and Amazon Basics. The Amazon Basics are the best quality for the money for us Canucks.
