Oh man, 50 bucks for that open-source thing every chinese is building in their garage?

If I buy any switching power supply I change cap on site if they are NOT well know good brand name caps
This is a 5 volts @ 5 amp power supply
It had some green colored sleeve that had printed " Low ESR " on them no brand name
I know this a hack job how ever it had 2200uf@10 volt caps were 12mm Dia and 17mm tall

KYA 2700/6.3 D10x20 mm would be just OK, or KYB 2200/6.3 with lower ESR and longer rated endurance.

Oh yes all those IR codes and what not you can use to reprogram remotes, cool not that I think ill ever use that function personally.

for testing remotes - it decodes the data on the display!

I have browsed though the eevblog thread before but it's so huge you could spend an afternoon and then some reading it all.

I have no idea what you would actually use the IR sensor for, I mean I realise it detects IR but it what circumstance that is used? it does pick up something from my halogen desk lamp though and spits out a user & data code!

you mean BangGood? yea i know - i can spend hours browsing that site!

the KAA is Kathode(lol) Anode, Anode - it's the zener tester and generates a relativly high voltage.
i also see that model has the InfraRed sensor and decoder in it - so it must be using the Markus Reschke AKA madires software.

Oh a case thanks saves me making one, plus with minor modding I can mount the 10 pin socket. I notice it slims down the zif socket.

On the colour screen one I have there is 3 test points labelled K A A although not too sure what they are for, although I think its for something to do with zeners given that if you put a resistor in there it gives results as if it's a zener.

Edit: My god there is so much 'stuff' on that website I could buy purely for gadget value it's scary

ignore the txd & rxd - they are for some debug tools - not related to progamming.
use the 6pin as reference of needed pins.

your link is obsolete btw, designs change.

Parts on order but it's china so will be a month no doubt.

Thanks for the images, not sure on that 10 pin one though. It has TXD & RXD on pins 4 & 6 and looking at other pin outs (including images on ebay for other programmers) pins 4 through to 10 are all ground.

you have to find some way of fixing it to the edge or something, then it's about 6 wires to the bottom of the cpu socket.

i'v seen it done, if i remember where then i'll link foto's

here is the hardcore answer btw.
you could use a 6pin, but then you need an extra adapter to connect to the programmer.

I assume the 10 pin box header is to connect the programmer to but where on the pcb do you connect the header itself?

right, some advice about the kit before you build it.
get a 16MHz crystal to replace the 8MHz one,
get a 10pin box-header (2x5) like the ones used on motherboards for internal usb connectors.

and get a usbasp clone on ebay to program it.

ESR meter arrived today, one of the 470uF caps had a value of 117uF and ESR of 39Ω

LOL i do like your easy access to the capacitors

You can keep an eye on the tops for bloating or leakage, it reminds me of the valve amplifiers that proudly show the valves sticking out of the case.
Makes it more expensive you know

It end up with a 10mm Dia and 30mm tall
It had three of them and one that was 1000uf@10 Volts 8mm Dia and 15mm tall it end with a 8mm Dia and 20mm tall
I could NOT find any with that size at Digikey I look for some time so I did a hack job on the case
I would use KY,KME,FC or FR

So just for closure, I replaced all the caps and now it works again as it should.

I did order one of those ESR meters from ebay so once that gets here ill check the old caps just to see which one actually failed.
