Re: Replacement 'green cap' 392J 1200V
Thanks for jumping in and the link.
Thanks to the others for the recommendations.
Are you ok mate? not sure what your problem is but I posted my own pictures (the glue one was for reference as I had already cleaned my board off), you took a shitty attitude before I posted the glue picture up. Thanks for contributing zero to the thread apart from the chip on your shoulder, I guess you must be the resident troll....

Re: Replacement 'green cap' 392J 1200V
I'll take a look thanks
Yeah my bad it was pretty late
You always so passive aggressive? no 'he' didn't cut the leads off why would I of done that when I had all the tools in front of me to remove it. The leads had been completely corroded by the glue and pretty much disintegrated.
I don't have an actual picture of mine but it looked similar to this but only much worse as the entire cap base was covered in the glue which had changed state into the corrosive brown stuff.

Re: Replacement 'green cap' 392J 1200V
Ok some pictures attached.
yeah according to that linked thread it is part of the snubber circuit .
Thanks for the catalogue link, so ECW-H8393RJV is the same capacitance, lead spacing (7.5mm) but only rated to 800VDC. Honestly I don't know how critical that is and whether the greencap rating is even genuine. The Panasonic caps rated to 1.25kV have a 20mm lead spacing....

Replacement 'green cap' 392J 1200V
Hi all,
I had a logitech Z506 psu go bad due some glue corroding the legs of several components and the one i'm struggling to find a replacement for is a green polyester capacitor markings 392J 1200V.
The problem is I can't find any 3.9nF caps with a voltage rating of 1200V from any reputable retailers (plenty of 100V) , this particular cap only seems to be available from Chinese sellers which leads me to believe the rating is garbage or the cap is.
There is a thread on this particular PSU here

Re: Faulty generic 5V 2A AC adaptor ('wall wart')
I have browsed though the eevblog thread before but it's so huge you could spend an afternoon and then some reading it all.
I have no idea what you would actually use the IR sensor for, I mean I realise it detects IR but it what circumstance that is used? it does pick up something from my halogen desk lamp though and spits out a user & data code!

Re: Faulty generic 5V 2A AC adaptor ('wall wart')
Oh a case thanks saves me making one, plus with minor modding I can mount the 10 pin socket. I notice it slims down the zif socket.
On the colour screen one I have there is 3 test points labelled K A A although not too sure what they are for, although I think its for something to do with zeners given that if you put a resistor in there it gives results as if it's a zener.
Edit: My god there is so much 'stuff' on that website I could buy purely for gadget value it's scaryLast edited by tiff_lee; 03-17-2016, 07:53 AM.

Re: Faulty generic 5V 2A AC adaptor ('wall wart')
Parts on order but it's china so will be a month no doubt.
Thanks for the images, not sure on that 10 pin one though. It has TXD & RXD on pins 4 & 6 and looking at other pin outs (including images on ebay for other programmers) pins 4 through to 10 are all ground.

Re: Faulty generic 5V 2A AC adaptor ('wall wart')
So just for closure, I replaced all the caps and now it works again as it should.
I did order one of those ESR meters from ebay so once that gets here ill check the old caps just to see which one actually failed.
Cheers for the help.

Re: Faulty generic 5V 2A AC adaptor ('wall wart')
Unfortunately not only a Uni-T multi meter.
Any recommendations for one? I see plenty of cheap ones on ebay but when I searched previously I recall people saying they were not 'true' ESR meters or something?
Edit: Now reading some older threads on here regarding the ebay ESR metersLast edited by tiff_lee; 02-20-2016, 10:22 AM.

Faulty generic 5V 2A AC adaptor ('wall wart')
Hi all,
i've got a faulty 5V 2A ac adaptor and was just looking for some pointers to identify the problem, sure I could buy another one for next to nothing but i'd rather try and fix it if only for the learning experience.
Here are some pics:

Output voltage was approx 5.3V but...

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hi all, well this is my 'mandatory'introduction.
Lee from Australia (UK) originally, always had an interest in 'tinkering' whether it be modding/hacking or attempted repairs...
Hopefully those on this website with more experience than me can help me along the way.
cheers.
