Small Monitor PSU is it worth tryingto mend it ?

My Grandson was give a Flat Screen Montor to replace his old CRt ..

Asked me to collect it and check it over ..

Did so last night , all seemd to work very well ..and free!!!

After using it for about 2 hours, playing around as a dual Screen. Switched it off , unplugged the small12v brick PSU. Picked up the PSU and it gave a Loud ( arcing type) crack!! .
Checked output with meter ... nothing!! m found it now rattled ??.
Took it apart and found both pcb mounting screws loose inside.
Looks like its been fiddled with before ?? . Replaced PCB fuse and it all powers up ok.with no drama.
But put it under load and it just clicks steadily and the led flashes ..
Is it worth bothering with ?

Looks like one of the loose screws has caused a direct Short between the top of the mains input Fuse ( 240volts) and the Aluminium Heatsink.

What components that could damage is a bit outside my comfort zone!!

I know what the problem is, bad caps. The fuse likely blew from being shorted directly across the mains.

I do see a small capacitor in the middle of the board, it looks bulged. I recommend you replace all the capacitors

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
            by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...
