I did quite a bit to this thing, I wanted to turn it from crap to decent
Here is what it looked like before: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...&postcount=551
On the input filter I replaced those pathetic little Y caps with pretty good sized ones, replaced the coil with a bigger one and added a 0.47uF X cap. It already had 2 MOV's. The stock 470uF CS input caps only measured out to 375uF, so I replaced them with 2 CapXon 470uF caps that both measured out to 485uF. Before I replaced those caps on the 5VSB, it only read 4.50V
I left the Fairchild 13007 switchers and unfortunately the transformer but I replaced the MOSPEC fast recovery diode with a 20A schottky. After replacing it, with the same load as before, significantly less exhaust heat! And before, the voltage would hang around 11.85V versus with the schottky it's stable at 12.12V
Of course I recapped it, cause all the caps were JPCE-TUR, Fuhjyyu, and CS. I left one JP cap because I don't have any 0.47uF 50V lytics but it's such small capacitance I figured it'd be fine. I also added that fan controller on the secondary heatsink and replaced the stock Globe Fan with a DC Brushless Xfan. I also soldered on a 4 pin to make the main plug 24 pin and soldered on a SATA cable. Gonna use it in a low power system
Below are the after pictures
