    Hp 18.5V power brick problems

A friend tried to to fix the broken cable of his adapter. He kind of messed up the soldering with his 100 watt iron and also screwed up something because the brick is now giving 27-30 Volts.
He measured it before plugging it to his laptop, thankfuly. The model is:KTL SU10184.
This thing works with an sg6842 pwm and 103a1 (lm432) comparator. There is a trimmer on the secondary but changing it doesn't affect the voltage.
I hope its just some desoldered resistor. I don't want to hunt down ics for this thing.

I have a hp charger around, if you want i can open it up and check resistor values for you or ic values.

this charger was picked up from recycling bin, the connector wasn't making proper contact as far as I could determine.

If you really need one, I guess I could mail it to you as long as you pay for the postage.

Thanks mariushm! If I can't determine some values then I'd really appreciate those measurements. I'm really curious about that ic on the secondary in the first place.

Ok, I opened it up again and desoldered the heatsinks and ICs so here you go.

        on the long heatsink

        P10NK60ZFP - N-CHANNEL 600V-0.65Ω-10A - TO220/FP-D²/I²PAK-TO-247
        Zener-Protected SuperMESH™ MOSFET

        and

        on the small heatsink

        FYP2010DN SCHOTTKY BARRIER RECTIFIER 100v/20a

If there's anything else you need let me know.

ps. on the back side of the board smack under the large primary cap there's also a small soic or so (whatever) 8 pin chip with the codes HP306 PBKX5 .. can't find a reliable datasheet

Yeah, these are the same mosfet and diode like in this unit. Could you take a pic of the soldered side of the pcb? That ic on the primary should be an sg6842.
I've found the resistor responsibe for the output voltage adjusting, it seems to be broken in half. I'll have some other stuff to do so I'm not going to patch this thing up on this weekend, but hopefully it won't be any more trouble from here.

The lightning sucks big time in my house, and flash would mess the board so I used my nokia phone flashlight feature to make it bright enough to get decent macro shots.

Hope they're good enough, I can always redo them or measure specific resistors if you want.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
              by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

              Assuming...

Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 - no power
              by PantherDave
              Hi all!

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. 😅

I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
              by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...
