    SmartUPS 1000 troubles

Got this UPS for second time. First time the batteries were dead (vary badly bulged) so I recommended getting new ones. It seemed to be the only problem, but after couple of days it was supposedly found with disconnected load and all of the lights blinking simultaneously.

I found it means internal problems, usually relay or FET going bad. Well, I have only weak batteries here (already weared-out 5Ah), I tried testing it with 100 W and nothing interesting happened. Will try wiring another two in parallel so it can work slightly longer.

But I won't say it's would be relay or FET, it would not work at all like that, whaddaya think? I have load of 4 LEDs out of 5 (~800 VA) on AC power ATM and it seems to work as well.

Now I wired the extra batteries (so I have two in series for 24 V, and another two hooked to them in parallel) and will charge them with light load only. Than as they get charget I will try to increase the load to 800 VA and run on the batteries to see whan happenes.

    Re: SmartUPS 1000 troubles

UPS handled even the like 800 VA output on batteries fine. Of course it was running just for a minute or so.

Anyway, what would you suggest to have a look inside? Maybe it is something like "relay is failing, does not clip once out of 10 times"?

      Re: SmartUPS 1000 troubles

Relays can get stuck in one position or the other, and while it's conceivable they could sometimes fail to switch, it's more than likely to be a sudden failure (i.e. not work one day.) I'd be considering cold solder joints or intermittent connections, or perhaps the new battery pack is a dud.

Well, the pack is hand-made. There used to be those 12Ah batteries, chief went on to 17Ah on my suggestion so they should be even better.

Have been thinking about it too, I will inspect it and if nothing is to be find, will tell him to bring me the new pack to test the UPS on that with my active PFC computer. This should be the worst-case scenario for the UPS, so let's see

          Cyberpower cps1500avr not charging batteries
          by carrzkiss
          Hello, all.

          Cyberpower Battery Backup Unit.

I bought two new ML18-12 batteries through Amazon (They have already refunded my money for the two batteries as we thought the batteries might have been bad.)
When I got them in, they were not fully charged. I connected them to the UPS and waited 24 hours before connecting any networking equipment.
In parallel, they read 24v, but within 24 hours, the meter on the front of the unit dropped from 4 to 3 bars on the battery charge indicator.
Checking the voltage, it was down to 22v.
          I quickly removed everything...

Testing ATX PSUs under load - Does loading the ATX 24 pin also load EPS & PCIE?
          by AJ847.63e
          Hi Folks,

Just wanted to clear up a misunderstanding of mine (or what I expect is one). Isn't the 12V rail from the 24 pin, EPS and PCIE separated? IE if I put a power resistor on the ATX 12V pin that is not going to load, thus tell me if the EPS or PCIE rails are fine?

I was recently watching ArIs from Hardware Busters video on how to properly test ATX PSUs without using 5 figure Croma substations.

The PCB adapter he used breaks out the 12, 5 and 3.3V pins from the 24 pin and gives you banana plugs to connect to. That is a bit useless is it not? Aren't...
